the beach boys (first time I heard it--very great to hear SBILA!), carl and the passions, and MIU all appeared on Rhapsody this week; i wish I knew what to listen for in the differences, but first of all they are all without the bonus tracks familiar from past releases.

The albums you cite never had bonus tracks on their twofers (except if you count Male Ego on BB85). The 60s twofers were the only ones w/o bonuses.

Ugh. It's a shame us Americans still have to wait until at least Tuesday to hear these on Spotify. They're still not up there.

A shame that the tracks on 50 Big Ones aren't the new mixes. So, "Darlin'" is a remix though, but what's the second track that's a new remix?

It's always fun to see how artists or their estate holders change their opinions on a band's catalog every time they release a new compilation (ex. Yoko Ono releasing new Lennon compilations, etc.)

Missing Tracks From Sounds of Summer:

- Be True To Your School
- Come Go With Me

28 of 30 tracks from that compilation are included on 50 Big Ones.

Missing Tracks From Warmth of The Sun:

- Hawaii
- 409
- Then I Kissed Her
- Let Him Run Wild
- Disney Girls
- Break Away
- Why Do Fools Fall In Love
- Feel Flows
- Till I Die
- Cool, Cool Water
- Don't Go Near The Water
- California Dreamin'

16 of the 28 tracks from that compilation are included on 50 Big Ones.

New Additions:

- Add Some Music To Your Day
- Cottonfields
- I Just Wasn't Made For These Times
- Isn't It Time
- That's Why God Made The Radio
- This Whole World

28 tracks from Sounds of Summer plus 16 tracks from Warmth of the Sun plus 6 other tracks = 50 Big Ones

Also, the new "Greatest Hits" single-disc compilation is an absolute joke. 18 of those 20 tracks are on Sounds of Summer. The only bonus is "All Summer Long" and the new single.

Nice work.  Honestly, SOS and WOTS are both perfect bookended anthologies of the Boys.  Unless someone didn't already have them, might as well skip the new Greatest Hits packages.

In this day and age of the Internet, why would Capitol have a 2 week gap between release dates in North America and the rest of the world? I don't understand the strategy behind it.

Just thought it worth mentioning that "Fifty Big Ones" is at number 30 in the U.K album chart. No mention of the smaller set though.

SUSA, IGA, GV, H&V are all pretty obvious. But  a rarity, or non-hit like SBILA? Was this some sort of a test, professor?  Smiley I failed! Had to locate my old CD to get the answer,  so I guess I cheated as well. Particularly difficult for me since I think of... well, you know what, when I see LA.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

That was my point. Takes, what, 30 seconds to type it out so it isn't frustrating to the reader, and it took me at least 5 minutes to find it on my own. Of course, I'm not very fast...

Yeah, because Spotify sounds so good.  :-/

I pay for a premium account, which allows me two main things, I can sync the offline tracks to my iPod and the sound quality is far superior to the free version.

Thank you very much. This will tie me over for now until I get the real thing. Oddly enough it was the SS/WH twofer that was my first BB purchase.

And now for a video of somebody destroying a first pressing of Smiley:

Warning: video is not for those who upset easily!

Judging by the label, is the record even smiley - did any release have a blue label, let alone the first?

Doing the good ol' inversion trick on alot of smiley has some rather interesting results - a '3' at the start of little pad, an extra 'oh' buried in Gettin' hungry, and I'm sure theres more to come!

A sigh of relief. I never actually owned it on vinyl myself so I would not have known better. I wonder who did this and what their purpose was?
