That would be nice if the liner notes were changed; umpteenth Pet Sounds issue on CD, and it STILL says that 'Sloop John B.' was forced on the record by Capitol. Um, WRONG.

Erm, the 1997 standalone mono/stereo release debunks the rumor, at least. Not sure if it's the first. I'd imagine anything after it does so, too - or am I wrong?

The 1999 Brad Elliott liner notes debunk it too, but the David Leaf notes came back complete with the misconception in the 2006 version. i just hate to have people just getting into this to get the wrong idea.

David Leaf got something wrong in another blind attempt at "BRIAN IS A GENIUS AND EVERYONE AROUND HIM WAS A F*CKING MORON WHO COMPROMISED HIS WORK"? Why I never!!!11

Unfortunately for historical accuracy, the name Brad Elliott comprises two very dirty words at Capitol and has done for over a decade. That said, I would have expected better from David.

Have just ordered the new set, but have omitted Pet Sounds because five of them is probably enough, unless...

Is this a new remaster along with the others? And does it seem sufficiently different to all the other remasters/remixes of the last decade to warrant buying another one?

Pretty cool video. Nice to see and hear quotes from Carl and Dennis. Was a bit surprised to see the concert video of Blondie performing Sail On Sailor. Nicely done.

They look really minimalist, but I think the actual back cover is in the gatefold.

Is there gonna be any difference to the MONO and STEREO tracklists? adding bonus or songs that are in mono but no stereo/stereo but no mono? because i don't see why they added the tracklist for the mono and stereo version if it's the same

It would be kind of a ripoff if they don't retain the bonus tracks from the twofers.

Well prepare to feel ripped off then because at this point it is not a questions of "if" anymore.

Indeed, we have. There are no bonus tracks at all. Just the original track list in mono and stereo.

There's no guarantee that every bonus track from the twofers will show up on a future compilation and they shouldn't just be on a compilation.  Some of those songs are absolutely essential, particularly "Little Girl I Once Knew," "Can't Wait Too Long," the single version of "Be True to Your School."  And I think that it's insulting to fans that Capitol would add tracks to one version of an album and then get rid of them on the next one.

I hope Capitol doesn't use the same photo on the back cover of Surf's Up that they did for the Japanese release, since the era the photo was taken in really didn't correlate with the Surf's Up era. But if they keep it, oh well. Here's the photo they used by the way...

Songs that weren't on the original albums kinda belong on compilations, though.
If you think this is a raw deal, you should have seen when all the albums were reissued in the mid-90's, one album mix to each 22-30 minute CD, no bonus tracks, flimsy two-page booklets.

Yeah, I see what you mean but it's still frustrating.  I think instead of constantly revamping the Beach Boys catalogue, it's time for Capitol to settle on hopefully making these the final and definitive versions of these albums a fan will need to buy on CD.  Same with hits compilations.  We've got the one disc Greatest Hits coming out and the 50 Big Ones.  We don't need any more.

But perhaps that would just be too logical.  Wink

So is every sample Ganz Allein, or are there other recently unearthed songs sung in German?

Those stereo Wild Honey tracks are great, even in a low bit rate stream.

Don't ba-understand why we know Mark and co. have a stereo mix of the album prepared (and have for some time), they're re-releasing most albums from that era, they're including two songs from it in stereo on here, but no planned release of the album ;(

"Darlin'" sounds purty cool - I never even noticed those horn parts during the verse, only the chorus.

This would've been the perfect place to release a proper stereo "Do It Again", too, but ah well. Considering the wealth of new mixes and material we've gotten this year, I can't complain about that one much.

Edit: I only now realize how the track order is a bit of a clusterf*** in spots. "Getcha Back" between "Wendy" and "The Little Girl I Once Knew"? teh hell. The entire tracklist reads like they threw it in Winamp, hit ""Randomize list" and said "HELL YEH DAWG"
