It was especially thoughtful of them to bring in Taylor Hawkins to re-do the drum parts originally played by Dennis on Today/Summer Days.
That was actually Taylor Mills mimicking Taylor Hawkins' style. She's good, she's even fooled Todd Sucherman the same way several times.

The Over-Produced version of With me Tonight on Smiley Smile is absolutely breathtaking - hear those synths rock out!

I heard through the grapevine that Ray Thomas' flute/tambourine parts were dropped from Smiley Smile and that he's none too happy.
However, the Mike Pinder/Patrick Moraz mellotron/synth battle on Fall Breaks To Winter is quite breathtaking.

One can only dream My money is on Mike Pinder's one mighty mellotron defeating Patrick's army of synths.

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

I loved how they replaced all the Hal Blaine drumming with pristine digital drumming by Chad Wackerman!
goshdarn Zappa. I love the guy, but why the hell did he use the least interesting drummer he had at his arsenal for overdubs?

Is it true that Paul McCartney redubbed his veggie chomping for the Smiley remaster?

Any updates? Now that it's March (!!!!)....it's been 5 months since the first batch of these remasters were released... and we're coming up on spring! Which is really close to summer. Which would be a good time to have the next batch!

Which would be a good time to have the next batch! I hate to be AGD-like, but who said there would be a second round? Sure, I hope they re-release all their other stuff, especially Wild Honey, 20/20 and L.A. (Light Album), but I'm not holding my breath.

Exactly. I'm simply assuming there would have to be a second batch, since the first batch theoretically spanned labels, therefore nullifying a label specific campaign.
So, I really can't imagine they would not finish it out. I assume that was their intention. Initially anyway. I believe AGD is on my side of that rationale. This was likely a catalog refresh, a la the Beatles 2009 remasters.

Wild Honey is no longer being recognized as part of The Beach Boys official catalog.
At least that's what Phil Cohen told me.

Considering they released a remastered Sunflower (pretty much an exemplar fans-only album as it's otherwise unknown) I'm surprised they didn't just remaster and reissue everything up to Surf's Up at least, all of which did better in terms of charting singles and whatever.

But Sunflower and Surfs Up were just sitting around from when they were remastered for vinyl a couple years ago.

Maybe the boys in accounting said they only have 12 retro-releases allotted for this artist in 2012. And/or the boys in marketing made the pitch that these particular releases (without Surfin' Safari) made a nice marketing promo for " mono/stereo mixes -- first time on CD!!!" And Sunflower/Surf's Up cuz they were simply "in the can." And maybe it was the girls in marketing. I really don't know.

One thing is for sure: if another wave of remasters is released they will be Japan exclusives, at least at first. And all the usual chaos, panic, and confusion will ensue.

Don't believe they found all the masters to do a proper stereo mix.

Don't believe they found all the masters to do a proper stereo mix. I'd be fine with them using what they had. Just so long as I don't have to keep seeing that gap in my collection. Also - Safari, Christmas, Concert, Friends, & 20/20. Don't leave me hanging, people! I want to give you my money!
