I thought Scott Bennett and Brian had a sucessful songwriting collaboration.  I know he does play an instrument on the new album, but why did they stop writing together?

I guess urbanite is referring to the songwriting credits on the new BBs album? If so, that's obviously not a BW solo effort.

Maybe the Scott Bennett collaboration was short-term, like the Tony Asher collaboration?

Lasted from summer 2006 to the Gershwin sessions. Brian didn't write with Mike for something like fifteen years, then another seventeen again after that. Might just as well ask what happened to him, or Joe Thomas (1998-2011).

You know the pattern already:
Brian collaborates with people for short time spans.

Hitler I mean Joe Thomas came back and convinced Brian that freedom was 'bad' thing.

In a couple of the interviews Brian said he had a stockpile of songs written with Joe Thomas and he (Brian) considered they'd be good Beach Boys songs.

Maybe Brian considers Scott as his solo work collaborator.........
