There are a ton of them like that on there along with lyric videos which I'm assuming may be for only people within the industry reviewing the record as they aren't accessible to Joe Public.

Not sure how I feel about these videos though.  They are pretty crass but essentially harmless and if it helps more people find out about the record then it's a positive.

I think it's funny that the BBs were required to do promos for other artists that they most likely don't give a crap about.

Well Bri has a bit of a history with Zooey Dechannel (if he even remembers her now) but whatever.  The rest I'm not sure of.  I'd like to think they had some input on FTP joining them at the Grammys but who knows?  According to the FTP website they are opening for the Beach Boys at the Cleveland show on 6-13.

Somebody needs to take and post a screencap of exactly eight seconds into the above posted video, and make a caption contest thread.  Grin

Plus, there's a quote somewhere of Al expressing his admiration for Fleet Foxes. Much appreciate if someone could dig it up. I'm too lazy/late for work.

But yeah, for most of those artists, I doubt Brian gives a fig. But they're mainly well-respected artists, on the mainstream side of the indie world. Personally, I like most all of them, especially Fleet Foxes. So I was happy.

The other guy's facial expressions while one guy is clearly reading a teleprompter are hilarious. Except Brian, who is completely expressionless.

Still, are all of these artists signed to EMI/Capitol?  If not, what is the motive for their plugs?

The whole thing feels like the BBs are hosting a longer program, but it's obvious they're reading from a cue system.

They're still up in the US; but WHY do these get restricted by country? I can see these promos, but all the others, for individual songs don't show.
seems really ridiculous !!

This so much. I've watched these videos over and over again to see what each person is doing and they all seem so bemused. Except Brian. Never has anyone worn a straight face like Brian Wilson.

I'd like to think they had some input on FTP joining them at the Grammys but who knows?

They hadn't but afterwards Al and Mike spoke very positively about FTP

BTW for the videos, try www.hidemyass.com or the proxtube firefox extension

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Dont really see why so much praise is going in the direction of FTP

1 hit song and mediocre album and suddenly they are peers?

The Beach Boys were not huge right after Surfin Safari yet these guys get praised into heaven? Dont understand the linkage in music genre either, many others coulda opened for the BB at the grammys.

These clips are kind of strange, Dave looks bored out of his mind and Brian is doing the thousand-mile stare.

Brian probably didn't care at all about what they were doing there, maybe didn't even understand the purpose of it.  Wink

I'm with Brian on this one. What's the point of having the Beach Boys host a faux video show where they play songs by "hip" bands that they're actually not in to? I mean, from a record company' perspective I guess it makes sense which is to say that it doesn't make sense to anyone else. The Beach Boys already have hipster cred. They don't need to court it. Besides, it would be that much cooler if  they had Brian saying "Our new album comes out June 5th and while you're waiting, here's the Four Freshman singing "Graduation Day" or "Hi, I'm Al Jardine. Here's The Kingston Trio with "Greenback Dollar"'.

You're with Brian? And you assume that Brian is against this because... he went ahead and did it?
