So, interesting note. The album is now number three on the Amazon top sellers list, ahead of Neil Young's Americana.
Fantastic..
It's also just cracked the top 200 on itunes, highest selling up coming new release. It's also #6 on barnes and noble
Things have really picked up in the last day or so

See, that iTunes number is big. They're going to have to sell a lot of digital copies if they want this to go Number 1. Seriously, judging from the other albums coming out next week, this thing has a real shot. I'll keep saying it. It really does.

I love Neil, but I'm way more excited for TWGMTR than
Americana
. Isn't that album just going to be him covering a lot of traditional American standards?

Yeah it is. Kind of lame, if you ask me.
We're going to need John Mayer's album to really stop selling by Tuesday. If that's possible. He might be able to continue moving a lot of units through the next week, we'll see.

If it get's the right promo on itunes it will shoot up the charts, I'm talkin front page splash like so many other acts get..
It can't just drop on itunes with no warning to the general public like smile did, I'm still not over that

Yap. It ain't bad, though. A few tracks are really cool. It's a keeper. Better than Iggy Pop's recent covers album, anyway. Or Macca's.

Wasn't that bizarre? A real joke, if you ask me. Unless they really didn't expect ANYONE to purchase it digitally.

I'll probably check it out; gratis, of course. I heard one or two tracks off of Macca's new album...::shudder::

The charts run from tuesday (at 12a.m., I suppose) to Monday, at 1159pm. Then the numbers come out usually on wednesday. So tommorow we'll get last week's numbers... next Wednesday we'll know how the boys fared.

Just a little perspective folks.
The Beach Boys have only had 2 #1 albums in the U.S.A., and that was the first "Concert" album, and Endless Summer.
Nowadays it's not very important to have a #1 album, though.

15 Big Ones debuted at #76, and rose as high as #8.
All this chart info is from Andrew G. Doe's Bellagio Website.

I'm happy this CD is going to chart high, and it undoubtedly will, but the fact that it will debut higher than any previous Beach Boys album is a bit contextually skewed. 90% of album releases debut at their chart peak these days and then fall away in subsequent weeks because of the way online pre-sales build and are credited as first week sales. The Beach Boys LP's of decades past that debuted low in the charts and then rose do not reflect that formula. Their chart performance was due to distributor demand, retail sales of the product in stores, and activity and interest built from airplay on the radio. Only bombs debuted at their chart peak in the sixties and seventies, now hits do. Its a strange world.

Nowadays it's not very important to have a #1 album, though.
Thing is, I bet it will be important to Brian. I imagine he'd be psyched as all hell if his first album with the Beach Boys in god knows how long went to number 1.
Also, does anyone know the answer to a question that someone asked earlier: What if you buy and subsequently return an album? Does it count in the charts? I'm guessing it does, assuming we don't return them until after the charts come out. Anyone know for certain?
