Mike Love: When we first got back together again we covered ourselves. We did "Do It Again," and Brian comes up to me and says, "How can a 70-year-old sound that good?" Well, I've been practicing. [laughs] He was very complimentary.
Wilson:
He sounds as young as he did in 1963.

Awesome that it seems like Brian was pushing from "Please Let Me Wonder" and "This Whole World". Which is kinda crazy cuz those were the two songs I really hoped I'd see them play, and they did!

That is the first time I recall Mike talking about Wild Honey. Have they done that song this year? They didn't do it in Dallas.

Brian: "It's like revisiting an old town you used to live in 20 years ago."
A very interesting and evocative analogy.

Yes. Way better than "it's like a reunion."

Sorry, but no , he doesn't and he wouldn't. 49 years have taken their toll.

The article says the album was produced by Brian and executive produced by Mike. What is the role of an executive producer?

It's largely honorary. Sometimes it means the person named has been essential in putting the album together in some way (which, possibly, Mike was).
It was the union of Mike and Brian that made the reunion possible (Al wanted to be along no matter what), and it seems like part of the deal was that Mike got a credit on the album and the chance to write lyrics for a few tunes.

It's more of a title isn't it? Mike probably added his two cents, but wouldn't count much more than anyone else cept that he's mike. Producer does all the leg work. Same with movies, a lot of the times the executive producer may choose a director or something, but after that the producers do all the work.

A lot of times in music, the 'executive producer' is the money man.

Hopefully Bruce's assistant remembered to pack this issue before the band's California leg of this tour.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.
