Much of their history is very well covered, but there are large gaps. Very little is said about the 1972-80 period. Only small articles for Love You and 15BO. There should perhaps be an article about Adult Child? Dennis' POB and Bambu could also get updated again.

I'm just putting it out. I do some modifications here and there very seldom and might add some additional info I pick up from the board. However I know there are some true experts on this board so I was wondering if someone would want to share that knowledge to the world through the extremely accessible site Wikipedia is. On behalf of many thank you!  Cheesy

Good call. Some Wiki entries on BBs-related topics leave alot to be desired. The experts should get on that.  angel

Wikipedia is a bit of a joke sometimes. They deleted countless valid pages about Beach Boys songs, meanwhile allowing pages to be created for any and all forgotten-in-three-months singles from the likes of Kesha or Lil' Wayne just because, I don't know, they're "relevant right this moment? If it's not that, it's irrational bullies deleting valid, sourced info you post. They delete pages for people who played on an album, were part of the band for some time (sometimes founding members), have valid background info etc. etc. etc. because some asshole deemed them "not notable".

This is why we need the Beach Boys wiki I posted about ages ago that never happened Cry Their catalog and history are vast as vast can possibly be, but sometimes, you just can't find much info on stuff.

Right! Totally forgot about that. Can anyone create his/her own Wikipedia?  Huh Maybe somebody with a history of assembling BBs information and online stuff should get on that. AGD?   Razz

Yeah, the MediaWiki software is free to use, all you need is a server/web hosting and a domain name!

I would buy the hosting/domain and set it up, as I'm capable, but don't have the $$$.

Sure. I'm mostly selling single issues - storylines of which I have the TPBs anyway, or the general odd stuff. I do not presently have an overview of what is left, though.  Undecided But there's nothing really valuable or rare among it, mainly regular single issues from the 80s and 90s.

I noticed you avatar before, by the way.  Cheesy

Don't even bother. The people who maintain those wiki pages are incredibly uptight about changes. I don't know who does, but I've tried to correct a few glaring errors on there from time to time and had some moron edit it back every time.

Yeah I had that problem too. There's the Neil Young quote from the Brian Wilson On Tour dvd when he says something about Brian having the band retarding every once in a while and this guy kept changing it to recording. I mean it doesn't sound anything like recording!

A dedicated Beach Boys Wiki doesn't seem like it's ever gonna happen. But we don't necessarily need one, because the regular Wikipedia is just as fine.

If anybody wants to brush up the Beach Boys Wiki pages, they need to have online or printed books, newspapers, and journals ready to be cited so that whatever they add can be verified in sources and not taken as rumor. It can be liner notes, magazines, pretty much anything that isn't something from here or one of the self-published fan sites (Wikipedia would consider Bellagio 10452 fine since it is 'published' by ESQ). This may seem like a huge chore to some, but if you already own several books, and are active on the forum...

I'm just posting this to let people on this board know that, generally, the printed material listed under https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beach_Boys#Further_reading has yet to be integrated into any of the articles, and I [don't own/am unable to find/can't afford] any of the books to do it myself. My knowledge and ability to seek out what's 'missing' from Wiki pages is also infinitesimal compared to the great scholars on this forum.

Currently, some articles which are in need of sources are Surf's Up and the 1957-1961 / 1970-1975 / 1980-1999 sections of the main BB article.

I think that's BS. It shouldn't matter if it's notable or not, other artists of the era have pages for all their songs. Perhaps persistence as well as putting up a decent argument can pay off...

Also, there's the matter of this debate, which had taken place on this thread (but prematurely died out):
