I guess this for anyone who knows/ or have been to the reunion concerts (:

But my question is does David Marks sing lead on any songs during the reunion concert?

Thanks!

I'm sure I read that he sang Do You Wanna Dance at the first show although I haven't seen a video of it and Brian seems to have taken that one over. I always liked Bruce's live vocal on that so i'd have him sing it. I'd like to see David take a stab at Sail On Sailor, Brian just doesn't seem to want to sing it for whatever reason.

Ahk, Thanks a lot!

Yeah he sang DYWD at the first show. Check page 12 and Andrew's comment on this thread http://smileysmile.net/board/index.php/topic,12772.275.html

p.s It's good that he has all the guitar leads on the tour, he's really getting a chance to shine at last!

Let David sing at least one song, in Atlanta he didn't say or sing a word! Some fine guitar playing though!

Yeah he's singing in the harmonies on most every song...you can hear him down in the Dennis range on most things.

I think Dave really enjoys singing "Forever" as he did on the BBs's 2008 UK Tour http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsZ5NSatN8A

Since Dennis himself is singing that song on this tour its not a possibility for him. Things like Do You Wanna Dance and Sail On Sailor have been suggested, but he's happy to let one of the other guys handle those... I think Dave might have another song or two in mind. We'll see as the tour develops. Right now he's really stepping up in the guitar department and focusing on giving that his all.

Why on earth was his lead on "Do You Wanna Dance?" given away, yet Jeff keeps his?

Because no one else can sing DWB in that full, Wilson-esque falsetto, but many others can sing DYWD.

And he's doing an incredible job. I was very impressed in Atlanta. His guitar really added a much needed dimension to the show.

I noticed that in a early review last night but no song was mentioned.

Think about this. Off the top of my head I can not think of a touring act where all the group take at least one lead?

Of course this is why the Beach Boys were always so great in the first place for me.

His reason apparently is he thinks the lyrics are god awful.  I wonder if he has a strong dislike for one of the writers or something?

Maybe he was 'saving it' and got pissed when they finished the song without him.

He was known to have worked on (and I believe recorded?) a version outside of the band's knowledge, thus none of his work for it was used on the final version beyond his initial bits of melody and chords. So there's that stacked against it in addition to him seemingly just genuinely not being a fan of the lyrics. I don't recall his exact words, but it was something along the lines of saying the song was too negative. Halp me out, folks.

Are we talking Brian and SoS here? The use of 'he' is losing me.

If that is the case, listen to Ep 9 of the 'Warmth of the Sun' podcast series. Brian goes into the details of the song there.

I don't have ep 9 of the podcast series, but I remember Brian saying something about how Sail On, Sailor reminds him of bad, or dark times. Something like that.

There's that, too.

And yeah, sorry, those couple posts were about Brian and "Sail On Sailor". Apologies for the vagueness.

Brian made the comment about Sail On Sailor during his 2009 gig in Philly.

Brian - "This next song we're going to do...I don't like! It's such a negative, shitty..."
Scott - "Should we do it?"
Audience "YEAAAAH!"
Brian - "All right."

From memory, he says he had a lyric from Ray Kennedy, a group of people came around one night and someone in that group rewrote the lyric but he can't remember who. Brian says something like 'I could never get with that lyric'.

Has anybody ever really said who wrote what in this song? I'm pretty sure some of the finer details have been lost to time, but man, what a mess. And I really do like the song, I feel bad because I just kinda spoke negatively of it the other day, but I really have to think that the final result probably suffered greatly from too many cooks being in the kitchen.
