Lykke Li - Youth Knows No Pain. Never heard of her before, but I'll fill this gap. The song has jus' right amount of darkness that is usually my thing. Sth. very "fatal" about performance. for want of a better word. Good accent.

I was searching my MediaGet for "sun video", picked out the shortest & that was it. I think it's beautiful. And the song is perfect match. Now, I see it's been on youtube for 2 years.

oh hey, thanks! Smiley my username actually comes from a song called "Undercover Martyn," and I use that screen name since my name in real life starts with an M, too Smiley. And the cat is from their album cover, Tourist History. That is a paper crown on his head  Cool

Last week, Lindi Ortega's "I Ain't the Girl" and "Rundown Neighborhood," both linked in my write-up in the 2015 new releases thread.

This week, nothing tickled me yet. We'll see how it unfolds.

Huge fan of The Prophet's Song.  Queen at their absolute best.  They were so great in the 1970s, its a shame Freddie tried to turn them into a dance band for a minute.  Luckily, they were about to return to form with some good releases right before Freddie died.

ie.  the title track to Innuendo.

Perfect example of both the greatness and diversity of Queen, as well as of our different tastes. I'm a huge Queen fan, but to me "Prophet's Song" is way, way down on the list. Like, not low on the list of their best, but low on the list of their songs overall. And conversely, I like some of the dance stuff. Not all of it, mind you, but some of it. If I had the option of eliminating Hot Space from their catalog, I'd definitely refuse. Plus, I think it was great for the band to just keep doing different things. One of Queen's best traits: constant absorption, interpretation, recombination. Four really good musicians each going in different directions, but cohesive enough often enough to do great things (repeatedly).

I'm all for trying new things to a certain extent.  If bands didn't branch out, we wouldn't have had Pet Sounds, Sgt Peppers, Quadrophenia, or The Wall.

I'm probably in the minority around here as I prefer to have my rock stars stick with rock music, maybe drifting into pop.  But not dance.  I'll take Miss You, Run Like Hell, or even I Was Made For Loving You.  But I draw the line at stuff like Here Comes the Night, the Hot Space record, and the studio version of Brian's Runaway Dancer.

I guess I don't even think about "rock" much anymore, and if asked what kind of music I'm most into, I'd most likely say pop. So that certainly makes for an obvious explanation between our positions. As I've aged, my interest in harder music has lessened, though not disappeared.
