They really don't have anything to do with each other. I just meant that as female singer's go, my pick would be Laura Nyro, as well as Joni Mitchell.

Just last night I discovered Paul McCartney's Ram album. I can't believe I went all this time without giving it a chance. I must have listened to Ram On about ten times in a row. What a great little gem.

Moon Rocks by Talking Heads
This song, along with most of "Speaking In Tongues" is vastly underrated by even hardcore 'Heads fans, even though it contains some of their funkiest and catchiest material. I can understand why someone wouldn't like it, because the production is thinner than paper. 2:07 is one of the funkiest moments in music.

Tom Tom Club 'Genius Of Love'. I don't know why I love this song so much. It's pretty funky.

Stevie Wonder's 'Knocks Me Off My Feet'....it never leaves my ear for too long
The Beatles' 'If I Fell'....which might be beating out 'In My Life' as my second favorite Beatles song.

Guess right now it's a tossup between "My Other Voice" by Sparks and "The Ballad Of James Bong" by Jimmy Cross.
Not a song per se but Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music is now at Youtube in its entirety:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-Vy4VRRO30
After almost 40 years it's starting to sound a little New Agey, but the antidote to that is to start up the clip, wait 30 seconds, open another window and start the clip again. That's almost as good as listening to the quad LP on a quad system (which I did, about 35 years ago....could only get thru Side 1 though).
BBs track I'm kinda obsessing on is the instrumental Transcendental Meditation. I never really grasped before that it's sort of based on what you could call bebop chord changes. I wonder if Zappa ever picked up on that.

"Summer Turns To High" - R.E.M.
"Shannon" - Henry Gross
"Horace The Swinging School Bus Driver" - Jan & Dean
"Morning Of My Life" - The Bee Gees

I've been seriously into The School's two albums,
Loveless Unbeliever
(2010) and
Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything
(2012). Both are excellent, obviously Beach-Boys-styled twee pop but don't seem to be slavishly reverent to their influences. Good songwriting is important too! Particular stand-outs, two from each album:
"Let It Slip"
and
"All I Wanna Do"
,
"Baby Won't You Stay With Me Tonight?"
and
"You Make Me Hear Music (Inside My Head)"
.
THIS!!!! Fantastic group! So cool to see someone else here who has picked up on their brillance.
Besides, is this a cool idea for a video or what?

Since yesterday, I've been listening to "We Are The World" by USA for Africa. The intro is beautiful, so is the 1st chorus with 1-2 of MJ & Diana's voices. A bit surprised to hear Paul Simon there, but his inclusion was sorta stylish. Cyndi's cool! I read that she was often compared to Madonna (or going by her own words - "my alter-image") but the truth is, Madonna had never been a good singer or fashion icon of the 80s, just a copycat. Dunno Steve Perry, Lionel Richie, Kenny Rogers, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, James Ingram & Kim Carnes, and each of them were fab!
Note: Dylan, Turner & Springsteen nearly ruined the song but it lasts 7 minutes, so I can easily edit those out.

Mungo Jerry, "Lady Rose". I heard it back in '06 & transferred from a tape recorder radio - luckily, I had lots of bad cassettes, so I could record it over there, with no damage to sound. Fun times, I have it now as mp3 -- really great song. I like "dee-dee"s.
