Ignition by R. Kelly.
It's the greatest song of all time, especially if you listen to the OG version and then the remix as it is on the album.
I mean,
1) It is a song about a remix of itself.
2) Bouncebouncebouncebouncebounce
3) You must be a football coach the way you've got me playing the field
4) bouncebouncebouncebouncebouncebounce
5) It's like Murder She Wrote/when I get you out them clothes
6) As if the party was catered!
7) Toot toot
beep beep
9) That ridiculous bass thing before the chorus
10) That ridiculous one note guitar line
11) The fact that the the OG version is just four notes of ridiculously over-done single entendre devoted to banging in a Jeep like an overture to the ridiculous party jam to follow
12) "Green Light" I'll go, "Yellow Light" Take it slow, "Red Light".... I'll stop.
13) The fact that R is so coy about previewing this remix and drops THE REMIX
14) All up in your greeeeeel
15) After the show it's the AFTERPARTY, and after the party it's THE HOTEL LOBBY, then around bout four you gotta CLEAR THE LOBBY, then you take 'em to your room and f*** SOMEBODY
16) bouncebouncebouncebouncebouncebouncebounce
17) How it is the slowest party jam ever. IT'S SO SLOW
It is so the greatest song of all time.
yeah I'm a pretty big fan of this song myself. IT'S THE REMIX TO IGNITION, HOT AND FRESH OUT THE KITCHEN. I must have the censored version because for the lyric you mentioned in #15 it's "take 'em to your room and *bass drum* *bass drum* somebody"

also, the line "sippin' on coke and rum, I'm like so what, I'm drunk" is such a great line.

Yeah, it's censored on every version? Strange practice. But I had to type something. The fact it's just the bass drum there makes it even better, but puerile me sings 'f***'
It's such a ridiculously good song, glad someone else here appreciates the genius of it. It might be an example of a perfect pop song.
Also, I was not under the influence of anything writing that list. It's just THAT GOOD.

I'm probably going to get a shrug or a confused look on this one, but bear me out.
Marina and the Diamonds' cover of 'Starstrukk'. Turns a typical bouncy modern pop song into something dark and moving. Marina Diamandis is basically this generation's Bryan Ferry in vocal style and attitude, and this recording is one of my favorite recordings in the past 10-15 years.
Don't believe me? Hear for yourself.
This is the original, by 3OH3 and featuring Katy Perry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvf--10EYXw
Now THIS is Marina's cover.

"Woman" by Peter and Gordon.
P&G always went for a big huge sound, but "Woman" is so perfectly early-1966 in its attempt to make the sound
bigger
and
bigger
and
huger
and
huger
, as if it were desperately searching to break into another dimension of sound. Groups would get there eventually, but this single proved that bigger and huger wasn't necessarily the way.

Anything and everything by Lake Street Dive. They're one of those almost but not quite bands, who deserve to be a lot bigger than they are. I was thinking about making a thread about them. Check them out on YouTube!

Well...this week, it's mainly "Peaceful," written by Kenny Rankin, and "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" written by Lally Stott.
The versions of "Peaceful" I've been playing over and over on Spotify and YouTube are Rankin's first version (from his debut album Mind Dusters in '67), Bobbie Gentry's (the first cover version, apparently, from her Local Gentry LP), and Georgie Fame's 1969 rendition which made the UK Top 20. Up till this month the only versions of the song I knew were Rankin's 1970s recording and Helen Reddy's hit version, but I like the first three I mentioned a lot better.
"Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" I knew from Mac and Katie Kissoon's version which was a sizable US hit when I was a kid, but in recent days I've been playing YouTube clips of Middle Of The Road's version, the UK hit, over and over, because, of course, I love looking at Sally Carr. (As it happens, the one part of the US where the Middle Of The Road version hit big in '71 was in Hawaii....so that means our President probably remembers it. I wonder if, after all the meetings are done for the day, he ever tells Michelle he'll be in right after he brushes his teeth, then sneaks over to the iPad and watches the TOTP clip of this.)

Obsessing is a strong word, but my favorite songs recently are "Losing You" by Solange, "Treasure" and "If I Knew" by Bruno Mars, and pretty much the entirety of the Raspberries' Capitol Collector's Series collection.

I missed this post...Wow, never thought I'd see "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" mentioned on this board...
You're right, the Mac & Katie Kissoon version was the U.S. hit, but for some reason, the small local radio station in my hometown (WAHT 1510AM in central Pennsylvania) always played the Middle Of The Road version, which I preferred. What a catchy little tune that I used to obsess over - in the summer of 1971! And, what a great summer - and year - 1971 was for music, especially AM radio.

great song. in fact her whole album is pretty impressive.
shes a decent singer in her own right
im listening to 'Bronze Nazareth - King Of Queens'
still I’m a hoodlum to a city queen
‘music like the dope game, “hoes tours and cocaine
Can u remain the same?”
We separate paths and get to strayin
Sometimes I think about you through a wind draft, or old fragrance
I Thank GOD for you Like wise I wouldn’t have made it
The sun was setting on my brain The pressure on my cranium
You stitched a broken man together mighta never weighed in
Put me at ease with my head in your lap at days end
Rubbin your hair wonderin where heaven had been
I was mesmerized by your almond eyes and ebony skin
great Wu inspired hip-hop by a great producer/MC out of Detroit
