Mungo Jerry, "Lady Rose". I heard it back in '06 & transferred from a tape recorder radio - luckily, I had lots of bad cassettes, so I could record it over there, with no damage to sound. Fun times, I have it now as mp3 -- really great song. I like "dee-dee"s.

Back in the early '70s I was working on the fringes of the music business. One day I had to pick something up (or drop something off) at a London studio and they were playing a tape of "Lady Rose". Maybe they were making the final mix-down or something----it was a while before it hit the shops. I remember thinking the same as you----great song. :=)

I've been seriously into The School's two albums, Loveless Unbeliever (2010) and Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything (2012). Both are excellent, obviously Beach-Boys-styled twee pop but don't seem to be slavishly reverent to their influences. Good songwriting is important too! Particular stand-outs, two from each album: "Let It Slip" and "All I Wanna Do", "Baby Won't You Stay With Me Tonight?" and "You Make Me Hear Music (Inside My Head)".

THIS!!!! Fantastic group! So cool to see someone else here who has picked up on their brillance.

Besides, is this a cool idea for a video or what?

Cute video!

"Uptown Funk" by Mark Ronson/Bruno Mars.  Although this song runs the risk of getting a little too played out, I'm enjoying the ride.  Thought it was a new Morris Day & The Time song at first.

It is totally Minneapolis sound. I loved it, too. Second-favorite song on that very solid album (only bested by "Feel Right," feat. Mystikal).

Wow, you were 1 lucky star. Did it sound different then or as is now? On the radio I heard version with extended piano tag. And I could swear there was no harmonica.

Another contender >> Charles Wright - Express Yourself. it's funky, it's stylish, it's right up my alley.

I'm pretty sure there was harmonica in the version i heard. Can't be absolutely sure, though, it was rather a long time ago.  Grin

I clearly remember the first three occasions on which I heard this song by Jimmy Nail. I've loved it ever since and have obsessed about it at times...

2 john: gotcha.

Ever since I heard it a few days back on the "Voice. Kids" show, I've liked the song called "Ben". Did the lyric search and found it was sung by MJ. Now it's my new favorite. Song about rat couldn't be more affectionate and gorgeous. I think it works for kids, there's a video dating 1981 of Michael singing it - still good, but it lost its charm.

Bobby Rydell - Swingin' School. From my CD collection "Gold Hits of R&R" (2008). Very good, but I see why it wouldn't top the charts (#5).

Yes indeed. I was singing "Across The Great Divide" to myself only an hour ago. What an album!

Don't know if I obsess about it, really, but whenever I play it, I have to play it three times in a row because it puts me in such a serene state - "Think Of The Good Times" by Jay And The Americans.  Here's a clip of them lip-synching it, with a stereo track dubbed in, though it cuts off a little early:

Nice pick, Lillie. Did you know it's based on an old Russian folk song? Here's the roots:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT3cFmh-1bs

Lots of singers/choir/orch. performed it.

The Rolling Stones - Salt of the Earth
Been deleting stuff on my comp to get more vacancy, till I saw I had the "Rock'n'Roll Circus" (+ "Charlie Is My Darling"). Decided to watch either before the process; as it got to the final number, I was in awe. And listen, I'm no fan of gospel, but I wasn't turned off by the "black women choir" thing. Some fans & outsiders say Keef is a better singer, more soulful & all that jazz. Well, I disagree. Mick is more skillful, diverse, he even did falsetto later on. But when Keith stepped up - "Salt..." being his 1st solid vocal cred - it turned, actually, very well. It's always been my favorite off "Beggars Banquet". This & "Factory Girl".

Had BibleLand and Songs of the Heart around my brain for the past few days but this song is easily the most entrancing.
