Picked it up yesterday, haven't looked through it too much. Just wanted to say, though, I was in and out in a few minutes. I walked around until I found the music section and I saw it on the "new releases" end-aisle display. Quick and painless.

...here's something I didn't know: it says David played guitar on Surf City.

I'm aware of the population that this Zinepak is targeted toward, and it mostly delivers. It's largely pleasant fluff, but well put together, and highly skewed towards the Mike Love vision of the band. That's fine, but it will hardly endure as a cherished artifact of my BB collection.

I didn't know that either. The AFM contract says:

Billy Strange - guitar, arranger
Ray Pohlman - guitar, leader
Bill Pittman - bass
Glen Campbell - guitar
Carol Kaye - guitar
Hal Blaine - drums
Earl Palmer - drums

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Sort of funny story.

I go to Walmart, pick this up, and go to a woman cashier, who, after seeing my purchase, says "Oh these guys are great.  Back in the 80's I saw them at Cayuga Fairgrounds. They were great."
She rings up the Zine pack, then a few seconds later says, "Yeah, these guys are good."  LOL

It must have sparked some fond memories of the band in her. I thought it was nice.  Grin

Damn... you met somebody in Wal Mart who shares something with you in common?  And they WORKED THERE?  Imagine that!  You forgot to tell us what her ethnicity was.

Does it matter? Or are you just being obnoxious again.

My AFM , dated 3/20/63, #59093 says something different:

Jan Berry (leader)
Hal Blaine (drums)
Ray Pohlman (guitar)
Bill Pitman (bass)
Glen Campbell (guitar)
Earl Palmer (percussion)
Billy Strange (guitar)

Jan would have also arranged his own sessions.

I believe AGD's. I wonder why it said David played guitar on Surf City.

My source:

"A handful of Jan and Dean songs used the group of crack studio musicians know as The Wrecking Crew, and Surf City is one of them. According to the AFM (Freelance Musicians) contracts these included: Billy Strange - guitar, arranger, Hal Blaine - drums, Bill Pittman - bass, Glenn Campbell - guitar, Carol Kaye - guitar, Earl Palmer - drums and Ray Pohlman - guitar, leader. There are in fact the unusual setup of two drummers on the tune, as Billy Strange preferred that sound."

Then I dug a little deeper and what did I find?

I found myself at Wal-mart today, I was visiting my family.

Anyways, I went to the electonix section, and in the main aisle they have a big display of new cd's.  They had one of the Beach Boys CD thingies displayed prominently.  (1).

So then I went back to the regular part of the cd section, and on the main endcap, next to Adele ( Smiley ), they had 1 more prominently displayed on the top shelf at short people eye level.

So then I walked around to the side, and the Beach Boys at this store actually had their own card, on their own 'block' of the shelf.  The only two albums they had though were two copies of one of the greatest hits cd's (the old one, volume 1 or whatever).

So, all in all, they were at least somewhat represented, lol.  The selection was shaky, but at least they were there.

Anyone in the UK or overseas want my other one? Cost + shipping?

PM me.
