A friend of mine asked me if I could find a cheap used copy of the MIU / LA 2-fer so I looked on Amazon and realized that a new copy was selling for $99.99 and a used copy only half of that! So out of curiosity I scrolled through several pages of BB product on Amazon and wrote down the current price for new and used. This is all in US dollars of course:
2000 Two-fers: Sunflower / Surf’s Up (New: $11.30 / Used: $4.00) So Tough / Holland (New: $13.78 / Used: $6.23) In Concert (New: $12.99 / Used: $3.60) 15 Big Ones / Love You (New: $11.99 / Used: 5.81) MIU / LA (New: $99.99 / Used: $49.50) Keeping The Summer Alive / BB85 (New: $15.48 / Used: $5.14)
2001 Two-fers: Surfin’ Safari / Surfin’ USA (New: $12.99 / Used: $2.95) Surfer Girl / Shut Down Vol. 2 (New: $11.10 / Used: $3.99) Little Deuce Coupe / All Summer Long (New: $12.59 / Used: $4.99) Concert / Live In London (New: $12.99 / Used: $6.02) Today! / Summer Days & Summer Nights (New: $12.40 / Used: $6.92) Party / Stack-O-Tracks (New: $11.47 / Used: $4.15) Smiley Smile / Wild Noney (New: $11.72 / Used: $4.35) Friends / 20/20 (New: $12.74 / Used: $3.87)
Misc: Still Cruisin’ (New: $27.75 / Used: $1.54) Made In USA (New: $20.99 / Used: $0.72) Summer In Paradise (New: $148.95 Used: $34.85) Good Vibrations 1993 Boxed Set (New: $45.79 / Used: $25.00) Lost And Found (New: $49.99 / Used: $11.91) Pet Sounds Sessions Box (New: $52.19 / Used: $19.99) Stars And Stripes (New: $12.44 / Used: $6.75) Endless Harmony (New: $11.85 / Used: $2.28) Greatest Hits Vol. 3 (New: $11.06 / Used: $2.98) Hawthorne, CA (New: $57.99 / Used: $14.75) Songs From Here And Back (New: 9.99 / Used: $1.48) U.S. Singles Box (New: $77.00 / Used: $43.90)
And for fun, Al Jardines's new cd (release date April 3rd) goes for $10.12 new and $9.98 used. Used copies already???

MIU/LA $100?! Summer In Paradise $148! Crazy prices for such terrible material (LA excluded).

I keep seeing MIU/LA for insane prices everywhere. Thankfully I scored mine from HMV (of all places) for £8 a few years back. Which makes it all the more galling that the disc won't play anymore.

I have been DYING for a copy of SIP. And unfortunately it's so highly priced I don't know that I'll ever hear it....that may be a good thing, but damn my curiosity really wants to give it a listen!

I will forever be annoyed about the fact that I paid more for Summer In Paradise than I did for the Pet Sounds Sessions box set.

At just under 20 US $ that is very cheap. But I have to admit that this is one of those rare BB albums that I never sought out to buy and instead downloaded both versions (in FLAC of course) some time ago. But I am shocked to see how much my MIU/LA is now worth. And Hawthorne is $57.99 new? I know I bought it when it first came out (actually my then future wife got it for me for my birthday) but what a great investment! And there's only been 11 years in between. Nice! I'm going to take great care of my TSS box!

I got both the European and US versions for a combined price of £18 - And to be honest I don't mind the album...

I just got back from running errands and decided to do a little more investigating on US Amazon. I did a search for Mike Love and here is what I found: Mike Love, Bruce Johnston and David Marks of the Beach Boys Salute Nascar used for $28.78 (another one that I do not have a physical copy of). A "Mike Love Sucks" button for only $3.99 (although I would never wear it to one of their upcoming shows). And that is $3.99 for a set of 5! A guitar signed by Mike Love, original asking price was $739.80 now on sale for $328.80. A Looking Back With Love audio cassette new for only $49.98. And that was it. Bruce Johnston's Going Public 2000 cd new for $38.97, used for $6.05. A 1" Beach Boys "Carl Wilson Is My Hero" Button/Pin new for $0.01 (I can't even make this stuff up!). Jon Stebbins' book Dennis Wilson: The Real Beach Boy sells for $230.82 new and $44.95. Tobler and Doe's book sells for $153.35 new and $44.95 used. A book I bought back in 2000 How Deep Is The Ocean by Paul Williams now sells for $150.12 new. Meanwhile the book Everyone Poops sells for only $7.95 new and the controversial book Daddy's Roommate (which is a children's book about homosexuality) sells new for a whopping $106.14!!!

M.I.U./L.A. & Hawthorne wow! Glad I picked those puppies up in '03 at regular prices. I might have to get a Carl Wilson button now, not that I'd ever wear a button probably...

I don't think you are missing anything by not hearing SIP. Although Hot fun in the summertime is good. Just my opinion. they recorded it on a Mac.

I'm fascinated by the buttons. I was a psychology major.
So, since he's giving away the "Carl Wilson is my Hero" buttons, he must be a Carl fan. He wants people to wear them, even if it costs him money.
At first glance, the "Mike Love Sucks" buttons are pretty cheap... but hell, they're not cheap compared to what those Carl buttons cost. They're actually very expensive, comparably.
So my only inference here is that the seller must not like negativity.... unless he's paid well for it.

I once saw SIP for about $30 at a local used cd store. I thought it was absolutely insane. I understand it's rare, but it's rare for good reason.

A much younger fan once looked at my CD shelves* and the adjacent bookshelf, and asked with wide eyes "how did you get all these rare CDs and books ?" With probably more glee than was entirely necessary, I told him "I bought them when they were originally released". Sometimes being as old as God has its upsides. [* but not the vault, of course...]

No, the flash might damage the tape box labels and notations.

No, the flash might damage the tape box labels and notations. Yes, it would be a shame if you couldn't read "Good Vibrations Vocal Multitrack" and "Surfs Up prt 2" anymore.
