What bands do you think should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Any groups or solo artists that you think have enough merit to be included with all of the other musical legends? My two are The Monkees and The Lovin Spoonful, both bands having a more than impressive catalog of songs.

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I've said it once....

Who gives a flying one? It's a elitist, redundant organisation that values the idea of 'rock' (which, depending on who you ask, is dead in the water) rather than actual forward thinking musical thought and dialogue. It's an excuse for the industry to go out of an evening. Nothing more. Nothing less.

And I'll quote it again!  Grin

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Spoonful were/are one of my favs, glad they got in while all the guys were alive. I wonder if there might be some sentiment to induct the Monkees now that Davy has passed on? Sadly, that's what it often takes to get movement on these things. Paul Revere & the Raiders should've gone in years ago, even before the Monkees, their career was a testament to the power of repeated exposure on television. They'd been playing around the Northwest for years without much success on records; that all changed when Dick Clark hired them to be the house band on Where the Action Is. The Guess Who had a similar situation up north. And yeah, I'd induct them, too.

Good quote hypehat, the RARHOF is pretty much an elitist club and I won't hold my breath in the hopes The Monkees will be inducted any time soon, I would think there's a lot of political crap that would prevent that from happening. I also agree about The Guess Who, they were an amazing band with many classic songs, they deserve to be there too.

Chicago, ELO, The Cars, and The Doobie Brothers.    And maybe Journey and Yes.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Let me know if they ever  nominate Bob Thiele, Sun Ra, Benny Carter, Harry Partch, Raymond Scott, Ralph Peer, John Phillip Sousa, The Fourth Way, or Flaco Jimenez, I'd be interested in that. Those are some Rock Gods.

Chicago and Steppenwolf should be in, as well as Jan and Dean. It would be cool if they inducted some really obscure group like The Edgar Broughton Band. MC5 should probably be inducted too.

Big Star, The Cars, MC5, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kiss (not a fan, but undeniably huge and influential), The Replacements, Fishbone, Cheap Trick - this could go on and on...

Badfinger - although there won't be much of a post-induction jam, as Joey Molland is the only survivor from the classic lineup.

Here's a list of all the inductees - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Rock_and_Roll_Hall_of_Fame_inductees#cite_note-Sinkevics-5 - there are some glaring ommisions and some very strange inductees on the list I mean, just how rock were ABBA? More rock than The Monkees?

It's clearly not an exclusively "rock" collection, though.  Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Run DMC, James Brown, Simon & Garfunkel, The Bee Gees, The Righteous Brothers, etc.  Those are not rock bands.

The HOF includes many r&b or soul acts - and it depends on who you talk to if those acts are considered "rock" or not. But the fact that they inducted Percy Sledge on the basis of one great record shows how biased they are. I mean, if one great record is all it takes, the Kingsmen should've gone in long ago.

Roxy Music, Cheap Trick, Joy Division.

All three of these should have been inducted years ago.
