Just saw this series by Bear Family about Country Rock, a genre I don't know too much about but think it has potential of featuring some awesome stuff.

Lots of good stuff there. Could quibble on a few things but Byrds, Spoonful, early Gram Parsons, Dillard and Clark, Buffalo Springfield, Mike Nesmith Monkees...can't go wrong!

Dwight Yoakam has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide, and he is a 21-time nominated, multiple GRAMMY Award winner. He has 12 gold albums and 9 platinum or multi-platinum albums, with five of those albums topping Billboard's Country Albums chart, and another 14 landing in the Top 10. Nearly 40 of Yoakam's singles have charted, with 14 peaking in the Top 10. He received the Artist of the Year award at the 2013 Americana Music Honors & Awards ceremony, the most prestigious award offered by the organization. On September 23, Yoakam releases his first ever bluegrass album Swimmin' Pools, Movie Stars... on Sugar Hill Records. Featuring a band of bluegrass luminaries, this album boasts a collection of reinterpreted favorites from his catalogue, as well as a cover of Prince's 'Purple Rain.' Produced by nine-time GRAMMY winner Gary Paczosa (Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton), Jon Randall (songwriter of 'Whiskey Lullaby'), and Yoakam himself, this album reflects the love for bluegrass music that Yoakam developed at an early age in Kentucky, and that has inspired him for many years thereafter. In 2015, Yoakam released his latest album Second Hand Heart on Warner/Reprise records, the follow up to his critically-acclaimed album 3 Pears. In addition to his musical career, Yoakam is a formidable film and television actor, capable of seamlessly melting into his roles, and impressively standing toe-to-toe with some of the world's top thespians over the course of his storied and successful acting career, including Jodie Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, Jared Leto, Forest Whitaker, and Matthew McConaughey.

Nashville’s storied music spaces threatened with silence
Downtown Nashville has been a backbone of the nation’s music industry for more than six decades, giving the nation stars such as Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. But the increasing demand for new apartments and office buildings is threatening its historic music spaces. Jeffrey Brown reports on the city’s struggle to find a balance between preserving history and making room for the future.

“Hometown Stars: Southwest Virginia’s Recording Legacy, 1923–1943,” is a special exhibit from the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum at Ferrum College on display at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum February 7, 2017–June 4, 2017.
The talents and repertoires of Southwest Virginia musicians proved to be a deep musical well for the nation’s growing recording industry. Few other parts of the country produced so much commercially recorded rural music in the pre-World War Two era. Still, only a handful of Southwest Virginia performers saw real fame or money. Most were simply hometown stars, playing music locally and living average lives. “Hometown Stars,” an exhibit produced by the Blue Ridge Institute and Museum, tells the stories of these artists – including the Powers Family, Dock Boggs, Carl Martin, The Roanoke Jug Band, Jack Reedy & His Walker Mountain Stringband, and several Bristol Sessions artists – through text, photographs, and artifacts.

RCA Studio A, the Nashville location that hosted sessions by Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Chris Stapleton and Kacey Musgraves, and many by non-country artists like Elvis Presley, the Beach Boys and the Monkees, is to undergo a facelift to recall its 1960s heyday.
