Just stumbled upon this funny interview with Faron Young and Ray Price...  LOL

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g84CIz_EfUc

Seems like a different world....

Trying to think of more blues based country songs... You've probably heard "Tennessee Stud", it's not really blues but it's got that kind of feel to it.  Eddy Arnold -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nFJtD3y3n08

A straight up blues one done by a country singer is John Conlee's version of "Let The Good Times Roll"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0V_kOBTfFJU

I was thinking more about stuff like Muleskinner Blues etc. Here's a great version by Lonnie Donegan (feat. Van Morrison and Chris Barber):

Full Circle is the first new studio album in over ten years from American music icon Loretta Lynn. Produced by Patsy Lynn Russell and John Carter Cash, and recorded at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee, Full Circle takes listeners on a journey through Loretta's musical story, from the Appalachian folk songs and gospel music she learned as a child, to new interpretations of her classic hits and country standards, to songs newly-written for the project. Drawing inspiration from personal memories and deep connections to American music, Lynn's 13 new recordings capture the essence of these songs in intimate new performances. The album is volume one of the Cash Cabin recordings, a series of new album projects imagined and created at the storied Cash Cabin Studio.

Highlights from FULL CIRCLE include "Lay Me Down," a duet with Willie Nelson; "Everything It Takes," featuring guest vocals from Elvis Costello; "Whispering Sea," a new version of the first song Loretta ever wrote; and soulful new renditions of some of Lynn's classic tunes, including a rousing renditions of "Everybody Wants to Go to Heaven" and "Fist City." The album also includes traditional Appalachian songs from Loretta's childhood such as "Black Jack David" and "I Never Will Marry." At 83 years old, Lynn's voice sounds as powerful as ever, and this new material only adds to her legend as a performer.

Just in case anyone is checking this out but not the 2016 new music thread: GET THIS ALBUM. "Lay Me Down" is almost worth the price on its own, but it's not the only reason to buy it.

Here's the video for "Lay me down":

T Graham Brown is awesome.  Great voice, very soulful.  Here he is with his sweet band about a year ago singing "Darlene"...

In some hole in the wall.  Here's a great video of him doing his fantastic "Wine Into Water", written after he sobered up.

STRONG songwriting skills, in my humble opinion.  That's C-O-U-N-T-R-Y !

And another kind of upbeat one, "I Tell It Like It Used To Be"

What a great and honest, authentic song! Thank you!

His singing on "Help me Rhonda" on Stars&Stripes was very rocking as well.
I also saw this song, "If you could only see me now". Man, that's the stuff for me...  Cry

I got some country music in the comp. Ron mentioned Vern before, these 3 by Gosdin Brothers:

Sounds of Goodbye  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uUob3vRb9s
The Victim  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSZplZgUYos
Multiple Heartaches: not on youtube.

Is Glen Campbell's "Sunflower"  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JHvUCGW0po  country? I am puzzled.

Bill Anderson & Jan Howard "Someday We'll Be Together": not on youtube but there is medley they did at Johnny Cash  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwHdqDOaXGI

Good cover.

Categories are terrible....  Cheesy
But I think there are recordings that deserve less to be called country....

I'm listening to this great album btw. Anyone heard it? I think it's really good:

I'll be curious to find out why these were re-recorded.  They sound like they're performing live
in studio, no overdubs.  Some of those tunes were not that old to redo, unless the arrangements
are somewhat different?  who knows.  That 68-75 period is my favourite era.  Cool Guy

Cool, I didn't know Flatt & Scruggs' version of "Nashville cats". Thanks for that!

Well, Mickey Newbury wrote that song. It doesn't sound very country, does it? Mainly for the sitar I guess. After Elvis it was hard to draw a clear line between country and rock. The first major recording star to cut it btw was no one else but the Killer:

I've grown up in a home with a mom who loves country music of the 80s and 90s. So i have a soft spot for a lot of those country singers of the 80s and 90s (Reba, Vince Gill, etc.).
