For those of you who might have missed it on the main forum, I finally wrapped up the first part of my SMiLE cover (which has turned into more of a "recreation").  For your listening pleasure:

Youtube version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJb8ZQdLTzY
Soundcloud version: http://soundcloud.com/adwolf16/smile-recreation-suite-one
by request, mp3 here: http://www.mediafire.com/?jkibppsva0r0022

It's about 18 minutes long and consists of all the songs in TSS's first suite, but with lots of variations in sequencing and with a lot of other H&V sections weaved in. Let me know what you think!

Very, very cool. As I think someone else mentioned, it's really difficult to harmonize with yourself and make it sound like a blend of multiple people, but I think you've pulled it off well. Your Heroes and Villains is also really nice and cohesive. Nice job!

I've been on a bit of a mixing kick lately with my third suite, and since I'm still very far from finished, I threw a sample of my progress up on youtube.  Thought some of you might like to hear where it's headed.  Hope you like it!

Wow, this is amazing man. I can tell you put a ton of work into the sound selection, performances, etc. Can't wait to hear the full Suite 3!

I love your version of Heroes and Villains. It sounds more complete to me than the BWPS and TSS version, something more similar to what Brian would have aimed for in the 60s.

I actually listen to your version of Suite One whenever I can. Is there any way you could post a mp3 file of it again? It looks like the file you posted last year was taken down.

Thanks so much for all the love, guys. I'm struggling with my Suite 3 sequencing (let alone actually recording it) at the moment--as much as I love BWPS, I'm leaning towards being much less reverential to its organization for this part. Who knew it'd take so long to finish this thing!?

That's the best compliment I could ask for! I just uploaded an mp3 version to my soundcloud account--you can get it with the download button under the wavform: SMiLE Recreation - Suite One

Thanks, just downloaded it now. Any chance of you tackling Suite 2? I noticed your Youtube channel has videos of you doing Surf's Up and an instrumental of Look among other things.

I absolutely plan on finishing the whole thing, but I still don't know when it'll happen. I'm falling into the trap of recording and re-recording sections to the point that I'm not making a ton of progress at all (on top of the fact that spare time is harder to come by now than it was when I did suite one). The Surf's Up on my channel was one of my earliest recordings--I'm really not happy with it anymore and have started over from scratch. I've re-recorded some instruments on Look, but (other than adding vocals) the one on my channel is pretty much final. Wonderful was actually the first tune I started working on for this whole project (I've recorded full vox and backing tracks at least 3 different times), but I flip flop almost daily on what I want the final version to include. Same on CIFOTM--the TSS version was such a departure from the BWPS one that I don't feel tied to either one, and I've been tossing around some pretty "outside the box" lyrical and sequencing ideas as a result. Basically, finishing this thing got a whole lot harder when I decided to "roll my own" instead of doing it as a straight cover.
