Thanks. To bad they only perform 1 song .

Here is what i saw and think about the performance:
- brian is singing Good Vibrations but i hear Jeffrey Foskett
- i see the complete BW backing band and only 2 of the ML & BJ band
- i could not hear Bruce, Al, David and Brian singing

Why not perform Do it again. That song is way better for the boys to show the audience that they still have it.
Good to see them all togheter but i wanna see only the boys. Why put on other artist to sing their songs??? Just my opinion.

Cant wait to see the boys live.

It is probably a grammy decision but it looks to me like they wanted the Beach Boys song to sound like the Beach Boys of the 60s which to me took away a lot of the enjoyment. Whether that will be the case on tour remains to be seen although with the musicians involved, that may be the case.

How does everyone feel about the guys singing their leads but the backing vocals sounding like the records, which really has been the case with brians band since he started touring?

Not that theres anything wrong with that! Grin

How else should the backing vocals sound?

Like one lead singer and 4 original band members as backing vocalists with minimal volume bv's input from supporting musicians.

nice while it lasted.

Good Vibs was the obvious choice. It is arguably the greatest single of all-time.

Do It Again is not nearly as well-known, and although it's a great song it's kind of sad in my opinion. It was their first attempt at nostalgia... looking backward instead of moving forward. It's way more Love than Wilson in that regard.

Did anyone find yet a video in proper quality (e.g. not recorded with a camera off the tv screen) with the full BB segment, including those two other bands, announcement, etc?  How about the interviews?

None of the records sound that way, number one.

All the original members have quite diminished voices, number two. Al is closest but has less high end and sustain.

Dave never sang on the records, number three.

Put those things together with the fact you have no reliable falsetto singer, no second mid-level voice where Carl used to be, and you simply can't rely on these guys alone to get it done in the live setting -- especially when the hit records inflated their sound by two it three times.

Mike is so fucking creepy this is awesome, lol.  When you watch Mike sing lead, you want to go take a shower afterwards, it's like he just fondled me or something.

You could take the best singers in the world and it would be really hard to do a really 'great' version of Good Vibrations live.  The song is so recognizable, anything less than an exact copy is going to fall flat.

BTW, best 'version' of it I've heard, compared to the original, is the version on BWPS.  Brian really nailed it.  To these ears, it sounds almost as great as the original.

Just took a look. Great and fantastic to note this comment in one article:

Sonically, yeah, although we’ll confess to having our doubts about how “live” those trademark vocals really were.

Every note sounded magnificent

PRO SHOT BEACH BOYS CONCERTS - LIST

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

I think it was definately live, because I've heard Brian's band do it over and over again, but I think most casual fans won't realize that a lot of it is backing vocals.  The leads are the hard part!

I think they did a fair mix with the band, Brian obviously has comforts to consider, so letting him have a few more 'familiars' around is probably a good idea.

My personal opinion: Mike is thrilled, much, much, much more than he'll ever admit until the day he dies, to be working with his cousin again.  He's probably somewhere having sweet dreams right now after sharing the stage with Brian tonight.

You can even see it in his body language.  He even puts his hand on Brian's shoulder in some of the pictures, and things.  Mike's over the moon about this.  I think he feels like Brian's home, at least for the time being, and even though Brian on stage isn't the centerpoint, Brian's very much the centerpoint of the band as he's always been.  I'll bet Mike feels like weight's been lifted off his shoulders that he doesn't have to continue to be a sub-par, 'psuedo' Beach Boys anymore, this is the real deal again.

Really cool that Al and David are along for the ride too, all is right in the world.
