Without wishing to be harsh on someone who is probably a nice guy, is he even more out of touch with perspective than one would expect of a man of nearly 70? He seems to be an old guy in a bubble.

Mike and Bruce, for all their faults, seem to be far more grounded in the real world, by comparison.

He seems to be doing really great. Looking jovial and sounding young. Different personalities, I guess.

And yes, the question sounds harsh, specially within the current (today's) circumstances.

To illustrate The Jardine's sanity in relation to his colleagues, just ask yourselves who the crazy guy is in the following pictures:

I don't really understand this thread. If anything Al is WAY to mentally stable considering the band and people he's known through the years.

Al exists to provide balance.  He's the polar opposite of Brian in every way.  His midwestern milquetoastness kept the Wilson-ness of the band from imploding upon itself many times over.

In other news, I think "Al's Mental World" would be a fantastic name for a shop...

LB, I know some of the people, obviously Captain Jack Sparrow, but can you please tell me who the others are with the Al?

Or some sort of variety show, or human interest show with Al as the host. I'd miss the news for that!

I thought Al sounded goofy and out of touch when he said we - the people - need the Beach Boys to perform music and bring hope during this time of deep economic trouble.  Yes, because what I really need at this time is the Beach Boys t try and make heaps of cash off of my nostalgia. I bet it's warming the hearts of rioters in Greece right now. If the BBs cared about us getting through this rough economic time, the proceeds from this tour would be going to charity. I mean, all the BBs (except Dave) are rich as all hell, or should be if we assume they haven't blown it all.

I guess Mike's hats don't pay for themselves.

Look, I don't give if the BBs are greedy or whatever. Just don't be hypocrites!

Picture 1: Sparrow Sr, yeah.
Picture 2: The Lovester and various folk. I got a feeling I've seen the two people in front somewhere else..
Picture 3: Flea of Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Picture 4: Santana.
Picture 5: Kanye West.

I'm sure Al has met crazier people, but that's the best I could come up with in a few minutes.  Razz

Yeah, me too.  LOL

Al hosting that show could look somewhat like this:

The Beach Boys gift to the people is their music. I would say there three  rich as hell people in the band. Al's not one of them. And compared to Bono, none of them are rich as hell. Let him do a charity tour.

A little heart warming gesture chould come from Germany. As countrys go, they're sitting pretty.

Al's not one of them.

I'm sure Al did quite well for himself, sticking with the BBs for so long and never developing any serious addictions. He owns his own kick ass recording studio in Big Sur, for pete's sake! Somehow, it doesn't seem like he's hurting.

I thought it was comical how long he waited to release his album as he waited for the right record deal. How many copies did think he was going to sell, and how much money did he even expect to make?  Just give the damn stuff away.

It seems like the older generation of musicians are out to horde every last red cent they can find for themselves. Neil Young just gave an interview recently praising record labels, saying that they "nurture" artists... what planet do these old rock stars come from? I feel like they come from a more privileged time and could care less how messed up things are today. It's not their problem.

Real artists today know that indie or a small label is the only way to go if you actually want to express yourself artistically. Personally, I don't buy that people like Rihanna or are "artists". They may be singers or musicians, but not artists.

Yes, I know that Brian has always been signed to big record companies. But it's obvious, as he became more enlightened, that he began rebelling against that. Smiley Smile, pitching a Jasper Daily record to execs, Love You, all the bizarre '70s material... that guy has been actively punking the major labels or just doing whatever he feels like since about '66.

Of course, nowadays, he's old and easily pushed around, and will do some things that I don't believe truly reflect who he is as a person. Didn't one of Marilyn's friends or sisters say that in a recent documentary or interview? I totally believe it.

If they need an Al Jardine for that Dennis Wilson biopic they should get the guy that plays Toby on The Office to play the part.
