Here's a "Rather Recommended" for
Autoluminescent - a doco about Rowland S Howard. He was a pivotal member of the Birthday party (NicK Cave's band before the Bad Seeds) and highly regarded guitarist amongst the post punk crowd.
For those not familiar with the guy, you might find some of the early music of an acquired taste (except Shivers). But it's a great story about a composer with a very individual world and musical view who suffered through depression and the wrath of the drug abuse (H) that contributed to his death from liver cancer.
His music is edgy, his voice a little like Joy Division - but music aside, if you like classic rock music tales of misfit genius's who initially blaze a trail then are alienated by their bands due to differences in direction, are consumed by their fragilities and mothball themselves in drug habits before managing to claw their emaciated way back years later - you will like this story and it's many insights.
