I love this version. Is that Daryl D. on the bass?

I actually started laughing the first time I saw this.
Mike's "I have my jacket on but I'm not really wearing it so I look cool and laid back" thing doesn't help either.

That was so fodaing cool! No one can deny that the Beach Boys look their coolest in the early 70's. It hurts that within 4 years they went right back to dork city and started cranking out the oldies.
It's too bad the Beach Boys don't have....uh, what's the word?...oh yeah,

Ever since I saw a snippet of this clip on the Endless Harmony doc, I've wanted to see the whole performance. I thought they did a bang up job. Someone needs to put out a dvd with ALL of the Beach Boys tv appearances.

Man, that was amazing. I never knew that they performed that song live. God bless the Internet.

Does a video recording of the band performing Vegetables & Falling In Love/Lady on the David Frost show circa 70-71 exist anywhere? I have an audio, but have long wondered if any video is extant. Anyone seen it?

I don't think I've ever seen the band look cooler.

I like Al's toque phase. Blondie's sweater-vest is pretty outrageous too. And I'm not convinced that Carl's pants match his shirt.

Now, to go way off the timeline, for a bit of comparitive analysis, here is "In My Room" with live vocals. Check out the matching suits. And the string arrangement!

And here is a totally live "When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)".

I love that rendition of When I Grow Up.
EDIT: Al looks the coolest, with his t-shirt underneath the striped shirt.

On the "Cool, Cool Water" clip, the band is rounded out by Ed Carter on bass, Daryl Dragon on piano and Moog, Dennis Dragon on percussion, plus their horn section is there.
An informed source tells me this is probably not early 1971, but rather late 1970.
They did this song live well into early 1972, when Blondie & Ricky were in the band.

That's the Ready Steady Go show in London in 1964. I've had this on video for many years - absolutely wonderful rockin' performance of a great song. They also do I Get Around. In the interval between songs the presenter, Keith Fordyce, jokingly refers to Dennis as 'Ringo' and the group look a little disconcerted by it!

I thought When I Grow Up came out on the Today! album in 1965. I think the Brits had more taste and were a lot more hip in mid 60's. The Beach Boys don't look like dorks in the English appearances. Makes you realize the opportunities missed as a result of the Beach Boys image and marketing not handled appropriately.

It was a single in 1964. It went to Number 1 in Canada (how's that for good taste?). Today! is kind of a hodge-podge like that.
When I Grow Up/She Knows Me Too Well (Capitol 5245/17 August 1964) US: 9; UK: 27
Dance, Dance, Dance/The Warmth Of The Sun (Capitol 5306/26 October 1964) US: 8; UK: 24
Do You Wanna Dance/Please Let Me Wonder (Capitol 5372/8 February 1965) US: 12
Today! came out on Mar 8, 1965, so 5 of the tracks were already on singles.

Does anyone ever watch videos like this?

If this is the public perception of a Beach Boys fan.. why are people like us grouped in with people like them?

I'd do them too, but there'd be no love behind it, and then I'd feel real bad the next morning.

The Mess of Help video - live vocals over a backing track, right? Didn't see a banjo or fiddle but could hear them - and the track faded, a sure sign it wasn't live. Or were the vocals prerecorded too?
The Cool Cool Water clip looked all live to me.

I like the Cool Cool Water clip for the fact that it's all live. And it's more listenable than the album track, since it sounds shoddily cobbled in comparison to the YouTube clip.
