http://www.contactmusic.com/news/beach-boys-to-reunite-at-grammy-awards_1274614Former The Beach Boys star Al Jardine has revealed his band was supposed to be the subject of the Grammy Awards' big reunion announcement last month (Nov11) and he has no idea why the major news wasn't part of the nominations party. Grammy bosses hinted they'd be breaking a big scoop during the Grammy Nominations Concert Live event in Los Angeles and many experts predicted the announcement would revolve around a Van Halen performance at the awards show in February (12) - but there was no bombshell. Even bosses apologised, stating, "In the world of creativity, everything is fluid. In the process of discussions that we had been having with an expectation that perhaps we would be at a point tonight where the artist involved and we, moving forward, would be ready to announce (a reunion), they weren't quite at that point." And now Jardine was revealed the big announcement was supposed to revolve around a full Beach Boys reunion at the Grammy Awards. He tells Rolling Stone, "I thought the Grammys might make the announcement. I don't know what happened... There will be a surprise at the Grammys. We'll do something really exciting... It's going to be a very big operation." Jardine tells the publication the original Beach Boys have booked recording studio time this month (Dec11) and he and his old bandmates appear to have put their past differences behind them. He explains, "That stuff doesn't permeate the atmosphere. When you're in the presence of greatness, you don't wallow in that c**p."

Why anybody tells Al Jardine a secret I'll never know, lol. Carl - "Al, don't tell, but I got Brian a harmonica for Christmas!" Al - "Brian, have you heard what Carl got you for Christmas? "

I like his last line but I have tweaked it to make my own comment about this 50 year thing.
"When you're in the presence of greatness, you don't wallow in the c**p."
Best of luck for 2012 Beach Boys!

Is there a reason Al can not be the spokesman for any reunion?
He was with Mike 72 hours ago. Would anyone prefer the spokesman was Mike? Can Brian make a better job of it?
The reporter was with Rolling Stone. Here's a concept. Al is the most neutral original Beach Boy and can put a sentence together that will not upset other group members. I would prefer to hear info from him over Mike and then read all the bitch!ng on the bloo.
Just my thoughts.

Here's my bet: They're going to lip-synch the 1981 Beach Boys medley.

I just get the feeling Al never asks the other guys if it's okay to tell reporters these things. He often talks about things that are still early on in the planning stages as if they were concrete.

This is an interesting stereo remix - was it cobbled together from SOT? As to Al, why does he claim not to know what happened at the Grammy nomination show? I thought the band was supposed to make an appearance to announce the reunion - did he show up and no one else was there? Did he expect a Grammy official to simply step up to the mic and announce that the Beach Boys were going to perform in February? This all sounds very half-baked...i.e. typical Beach Boys business.

Maybe this is just the way they are promoting this reunion by having Brian changing his mind back and forth and the members arguing with each other then showing up at the last minute, after all it IS getting people talking about it and it seems to be getting in the media..

I am rather curious to see what has been going on in the studio. Also the fact David has been in California with both Al and Mike. Could he be recording his first 'new' Beach Boy album in almost 50 years? BTW. Andrew has been winking a lot of late. He knows more than he is letting on or has developed a tic.
