Special guest Stamos but another more 'special' guest does not rate a mention. Check out the video link.

So, they do GV. What else?

Yeah, are they playing any Smile songs?  Other than GV and H&V?

And Stamos, how exactly did he manage to get into the band?  Their Full House experience way back when must have been incredibly awesome I gather   Roll Eyes
He's probably a nice guy, probably is a legitimate fan of the music, he's handsome and provides eye candy for the ladies i suppose - but still, what the hell?   I thought the Stamos period was just a phase, but they keep bringing him back.
It's their perogative to do so of course, and who am I to say boo (hoo) about it, but everytime I see him with them something deep inside me lets out the "ugh-iest" of groans.    Maybe it's just indigestion.   Shrug

Hey, thanks for the link. Great to see Dave playing with the guys (and looking like he's having a great time, to boot). Let's this hope this is a sign of things to come for the 50th!

Other than GV and H&V?

I saw the Mike & Stamos show in October — they went nowhere near H&V.

Photos here, BTW:

One of the captions describes David as a Beach Boy, so maybe that's why he's not named as a special guest. But to make Stamos the focus of the article and put SS in the background...um...

"Special guest John Stamos, center, plays with The Beach Boys, from left, David Marks, Randell Kirsch and Mike Love during their 'Kokomo' Christmas concert at the St. George Theatre. (Staten Island Advance/Bill Lyons)"

Just assumed they might play H&V, but guess not.    Too bad, be kind of cool to hear them play some of those tunes, even with Shamos as guest.

They played H&V at the one UK concert they did this year. Was a nice surprise. Not sure if they've done it since though.

They played H&V in Madrid too. Probably in the rest of the french shows as well.

"Kokomo Christmas"?

That's exactly that kind of escapist cheese that needs to be avoided for any seriously done reunion/anniversary celebration. Imagine this would've been anounced at the Grammy nominations. 50th anniversary and you do a "Kokomo christmas" ? Any way, why still hang so much on Kokomo ? It was almost 25 years ago and no one will go to a concert just because it has that name in it's title. It's unimportant

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

Why is Mike is obsessed with this song, all he wrote was the hook on a finished John Phillips song Undecided

I think he did a little more than that. But still, no need to concentrate everything on that song

Welcome to the wonderful world of public relations. Smiley

So was I close when I posted about the Kokomo-Cocktail-Stamos connection with the song's success, seemingly out of nowhere for the Beach Boys?

They're still using the same PR angle to sell things in 2011, it must have worked at least somewhat in 1988 for them to repeat it.

I could see this getting ugly at the reunion if Mike says Kokomo is the greatest Beach Boys song and Brian gets rightfully pissed because he wrote so many greater songs in the glory days.
