Are you referring to the Darlene Love song "Alone on Christmas" that was done with the E Street band for the Home Alone 2 soundtrack?  I love that song.  They really capture the Spector sound.

Never know that existed, but I do love The Ramones song Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight).

I think my all-time favourite Christmas song would be Santa Claus is Comin' to Town by Cyndi Lauper and Frank Sinatra. So clever and so good, her vocals just kill me. Actually, the whole Very Special Chrismas v2 album is such a great compilation.

Also, not favourites, but thought I'd put this here, since I came across it on my Twitter feed...

This is what a full Beatles Christmas album might've sounded like

Cyndi is great singer. Did you listen to "Early Christmas Morning"? The groovy 3:42 version. In my Top 10 favorites.

Lime is food? Yep.

Mandarin and Clementine went to meet the entire citrus gang, nobody ate people.

I haven't yet, but I will! Sounds like something I'd enjoy.

Atlas Eets Christmas by the Flaming Lips and Plastic Ono Band

Sean Lennon wrote the great outro. Give it a listen.

Ye gods, I had to go back a long way to find a Christmas song thread! Shocked

To quote part of the YouTube blurb, "MSMUSIC and FOOTHILL RECORDS presents RACHEL AND THE REINDEERZ cover of the Beach Boys' 1974 Christmas tune 'Child of Winter', written by Brian Wilson and Stephen Kalinich (and interpolating the old standard 'Here Comes Santa Claus' by Gene Autry & Oakley Haldeman). This new version was produced by Alan Boyd and Mark Linett, and features Rachel Wolfe on lead and backing vocals, Beach Boy David Marks on lead guitar, Dane Conover on tack piano, and Alan Boyd on the rest. Carnie and Wendy Wilson's kids (Lola & Luci Bonfiglio, and Leo, Beau, Jesse, & Willem Knutson) provided the recitation."

Warning: This joyous video can be addictive!

Ive come to hate almost all Christmas music with a white hot fiery passion. Call me Scrooge McGrinch because if I went my entire life never hearing another tacky "reimagining" of Deck the Halls or chorus girls obnoxiously belting out "Happy Holidays! Happy Holidays! Happy Holidays! May the Merry Bells keep ringing..." it'd be too soon.  Grin They're just so cloyingly loud, fake, overly cheery and vapid. It actually makes me viscerally angry, especially some of the tackier remixes where the artist puts their obnoxious "spin" on these outdated commercial jingles from 1940--just write your own song, goshdarn it. (Cue "Christmas Shoes" and a finger on the monkey's paw curling!)

That said, I like the Carpenters' Merry Christmas Darling. I like Bing Crosby's original White Christmas. I like the actual Christian hymns (Silent Night, Hark! the Herald Angels sing, Oh Holy Night and One Star in the Night in particular), it's usually hard to screw those up. Last Christmas is good. My World is Beginning Today (from the Rankin-Bass "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" special) is a favorite. Despite its reputation I like McCartney's Wonderful Christmas Time, corny synths and all. The soundtrack to Charlie Brown Christmas is a jazzy masterpiece and I'm convinced it's the main reason that special resonated so well with people. Andy Williams' My Favorite Things cover from Sound of Music is ironically the best song on his holiday album--and it's not even really a Christmas song!

The worst are probably Winter Wonderland by any artist--of all the "classic" non-religious staples that refuse to die, that one's particularly annoying. 12 Days of Christmas, although the Muppets version is a cute novelty the first time. I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas, Let There Be Peace on Earth, All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus and Lennon's Christmas song all particularly annoy me. The Beach Boys' Christmas album is their worst of the 60s and honestly not much better than even SIP--yes, I'd go that far.

Hello, J. I've never been a great fan myself. That said, I was recently introduced to the Johnny Mathis album Merry Christmas and it's grown on me. What a fascinating voice that man has. And then there's this Dennis song:

The contrast with the Brian/Stevie song in my previous post couldn't be greater but I love 'em both.
