I was just thinking about this today. The very first BB album that was named after a song that was not written by Brian Wilson was Keepin the Summer Alive. I believe KTSA, and Summer In Paradise are the only BB albums named after a song not written by Brian. Although, I can't off the top of my head remember what the album with Kokamo on it was called. Does that count as an album?

It was, but the album is Shut Down Volume 2 and Volume 1 was named after Brian's Beach Boys' song.

Yeah, Shut Down vol II is different then Shut Down part 2, I think. So 3 albums named after songs that weren't Brian's. Smiley

The main reason I don't really call it an album, is because side 2 is filled with old hits. Maybe a half album and half greatest hits. I don't care how much it sucks, if all the material is new or unreleased then I would call it an album.

While we're on the subject of album titles, can we all work on a definitive guide of who named what album, and why? I've always been curios about who gave Beach Boys albums their name, and the story of why/how it came to be called that specific album title. I think that most of us here can agree that Brian gave "Smile" it's name, and Mike gave "Pet Sounds" it's name. I know that Brian once talked about calling an album "Brian's In Love", but was he responsible for giving "The Beach Boys Love You" it's name?

"Sweet Insanity" came from the Rainbow Eyes lyric, so I guess that Landy could have given the title ?

I believe the original title was to be "Brian Loves You" and that he himself nixed it.

I was fearing that this board would have nothing to talk about once the Smile mania subsides.

I think this thread proves otherwise!

I'm guessing that Capital came up with early album titles named after the big hit single. Not sure about Today or SDSN. I'm guess one of the BBs came up with most album titles after 65 or so. But I'm not an expert. Just guessing.

Earliest Beach Boys album that was named after a song that Brian didn't write, huh? Well...Brian never wrote a song called "Shut Down, Vol. 2." Hell, even the almost-title track was written by Carl...

The original VA album was named after the song, which led off the album. So, since volume 2 is named to follow the first, then it is in fact named after the song. BTW, the Carl song is "Shut Down Part II", not Volume 2.
