Well this is frustrating as all hell. Unless they're just not putting it up as fast as I'd like, the only CBS link turned out to be a dead one...maybe they pulled it down? My patience is running out. No reason to not post a story that aired this morning. g*ddamned elections, Kardashians, etc...  Grin

Regarding the footage in this clip as well as the similar footage in the YouTube “Smile” Capitol videos/EPK’s, I think it’s amazing. I’d love to get the uncut footage. However, I’m wondering how much of this footage there is. It seems like it *could* be a lot of sort of “b-roll” type footage. It may not have sound, and it may just be a jumble of various footage taken on a particular day. It could be five minutes of footage (or hours). Not trying to be negative or assume anything. It just has the look and feel of footage meant to underline a news report or documentary, as opposed to a film crew trying to document a session thoroughly. I’d love a DVD or Blu-ray of it too, but I don’t see a DVD or Blu-ray release of a few minutes of choppy footage without sound as a strong possibility. Again, just guessing. I hope we have a trove of hours of footage. I would also guess that if they had really uncovered a large amount of film footage of GV or Smile Sessions, they would have perhaps justified a DVD as part of the “Smile Sessions” package.

Missed opportunity, unless one's in the works. Still, you'd think something like that would've been released alongside this.

Wow, the studio footage was soooooooo good. The part where Brian is standing next to Hal Blaine and wildly waving his arms is amazing.

I'm thinking the footage might be from the 8/12/66 session for "Look/I Ran".

Interesting conclusion...  I would sort of doubt Look, because of the personnel.  Brian at Piano, Tommy Morgan on Harmonica, Migliori on Sax, Hal on Drums, Carl on Fender Bass, Somebody on String Bass, doesn't really match Look. does it?  I was thinking GV for some reason.

My (doubtless flawed) reasoning has to do with timing and clothing and film stock.

Perhaps...6/16/66 GV session?

I bet this is it, he mentions to "Bob" that they won't be able to have "that thing going" while they're making takes--I bet that's it...

That's what I was thinking too, as it's been commented here before that a still camera or something else must have been in the studio for him to say something like that.

Depending on what's in the full footage it might be possible to sync some of the session audio to it.  If it was all shot between takes and is mainly Brian directing the musicians on the floor...most of that stuff was never recorded.

It was definitely a motion picture camera of some sort... you can actually hear it running between takes if you listen to the session with headphones.

Wow, that studio footage - just can't stop watching it over and over.  It's weird reading about it and hearing it on session tapes for so long, but to have a visual to go along with it is just incredible.  Even if there's no sound, I do hope that whatever footage like this they have gets some kind of official release.

WHAT A DAY!!!!!!!!!!

Brian seems to be somehow  at peace in that interview.   I hope he is looking forward to some kind of fulfilling semi-retirement.  God only knows he has earned it.

Your local news station was the first CBS affiliate I found, after emails and much searching and frustration, to post that video clip for public viewing. I can't thank KHOU enough for this, I found it just before I had to leave for the day and proceeded to send links and post it around so other people could see what is some of most incredible studio footage I've seen yet.

Hopefully more will be made available! But major kudos to KHOU, it made a great day even better with that clip.
