What was your Beach Boys album top 5 (including solo albums) before the release of 'The Smile Sessions' and what is it now?

Mine:

Before:
1. Sunflower
2. Pet Sounds
3. Brian Wilson Presents Smile
4. Friends
5. That Lucky Old Sun

After:
1. Sunflower
2. Pet Sounds
3. The Smile Sessions
4. Friends
5. That Lucky Old Sun

I prefer TSS over BWPS, hands down, but I still like Sunflower and Pet Sounds better.

Little premature for this in my opinion.  Right now nothing by The Beach Boys or any other artist comes close to topping "Pet Sounds" as an album.  That is having lived with the "SMiLE" material for over a decade now including BWPS.  Hopefully by this time next year I'll be able to render a more precise evaluation as to where "SMiLE" fits into the grand scheme of things in regards to The Beach Boys once I've heard the material compiled in a definitive cohesive form.  But it's going to take awhile (probably a year) for me to figure out where the album itself ranks although I feel the music itself is the best The Beach Boys ever recorded.

Hasn't changed with this release (as the SMiLE music has existed since long before the box set):

1)  Pet Sounds
2)  SMiLE
3)  Today!
4)  Smiley Smile
5)  Sunflower

Yes, because TSS makes BWPS less relevant.

I wonder if anyone has heard the entirety of the Beach Boys discography enough to be familiar with it and Summer In Paradise is their favorite Beach Boys album?

I don't hate it as much as most people. Eric Anniversario is a big fan of it, I recall.

Take the most halfway decent songs from SIP and Still Cruisin' and you have one fairly decent album there. Even with fairly mediocre songs, dem Boys' could still sing a mean tune.

Yes, because TSS makes BWPS less relevant.

No, what he means is, in your first list BWPS was above Friends and Lucky Old Sun. In list two, it's gone, so now you enjoy Friends and That Lucky Old Sun more than BWPS because TSS was released.  LOL

CATP should be in there, but I almost don't even consider it a Beach Boys album!!! I know it is, of course, but it stands apart from almost everything else they've done in such a distinct (and good) way.

Somewhere Near Japan
Kokomo
Island Girl
Strange Things Happen
In My Car
Still Cruisin
Lahaina Aloha
Summer In Paradise
Make It Big
Summer Of Love (sorry, I dig this one)

That could've made a halfway decent "last album" right there!

Add some of the better Sweet Insanity songs and it would've been quite possibly a stronger album than BB85.

"Smart Girls" of course could've been the flipside of "Summer of Love"... Grin
