I've been missing my daily dose of Smiley Smile dot net. I'm thinking Chinese water torture for that Bangladeshi hacker would be appropriate. Evil Evil
Any thoughts?

Lock him up in a small cell with AGD extolling the never ending  virtues of the Mike and Bruce Tribute Band for 3 months. Wink

Have the hacker listened to GIOMH and SIP on repeat forever. Country Love and Sweet Insanity as "relief" once a month.

Sitting in a tiny cell whilst listening to Starland Vocal Band's entire catalogue on repeat  would break him. Wall Wall

We probably don't even need all the posts on the board. We could probably drive him insane with Ghost's posts alone.

What's the purpose of even hacking a message board such as this, one that focuses on a basically dead band and a bunch of folks the general public no longer cares about? The satisfaction in doing so? I just don't get it.

Do you all actually think that this message board specifically was hacked? Really now? It was the entire server that got hacked. That includes many different sites.

Was the "anonymous" group behind the hack? They've been in the news lately for hacking Facebook.

They aren't exactly anonymous , the person/persons refer to themselves as TiGER-M@TE and are well know around the world and even brag about their exploits on various websites.. Forget about Julian Assange, the sooner this person is tracked down and prosecuted the better.

I feel old asking this (I'm only 25), but is there any kind of purpose behind this sort of thing? Is this d00d fighting for something or just being a prick for the sake of being a prick?

It's a dns exploit. Basically whenever you type a url in your address bar, the url routes to the ip of the website. Like if you go to http://74.125.224.72/ you'll end up at google.com. dns servers link urls to the correct ip addresses.
The guy doing it wasn't malicious from what I can tell. He probably just trolls the internet using some script to find servers where he can use his exploit, the urls get hijacked and redirect, not to their regular ips, but to one of his selecting. Using this exploit one could trick people into providing their usernames/emails/passwords to him.
Basically he thinks he's providing a service by showcasing this exploit in order for people to beef up their security or fix the problem or whatever. That's what a lot of "hackers" do. It's annoying as hell for everyone, but a lot of hackers are just interested in showing off security flaws.

And I'm interested in showing off my collection of medieval torture devices to a certain Bangladeshi gentleman.

Good points, appreciate that alternate viewpoint.   I think there's still time to call off the strike squad I mobilised ten minutes ago….

How though did he manage to send my browser on a trip around my 'puter screen when I tried to close the window?

Yes and depriving various websites from operating their businesses just to make a point is downright reprehensible, regardless of their intentions to show off security floors.
