Poor Mike cops a load but Al goofed here IMO!

Lady Linda Lady Liberty

Its one thing to diss the missus during a divorce but to change a song title and lyric....for the worse!

A lot of BB songs would need to have new titles if this was the case! Wink

It's not the first time that Al had done this with Lady Lynda, after the divorce it was sang live as 'Little Lady'!

Lady Liberty is a terrible song and I like the original.

I think Al's big mistake must still be his ponytail though.

Never liked the song tbh, is there a better early version like Santa Ana Winds?

There is an earlier version... Not sure if you're going to like it any better...

Interesting (and 2-year-old) comment by one Ron Altbach below that clip:

"I co-wrote this with Al. We wrote it in Big Sur in 1976 The only BBoys on the vocals are Al and Mike. Bobby Figueroa, Eddie Carter, Eddie Tuleja and I were the back-up vocals. The electric wurlitzer piano was originally the sound my band King Harvest used on Dancing in the Moonlight. So, yes, this was in the same kind of non-bboys production that Al and I did on MIU. And we had a great time doing it. Ron Altbach"

Here's a clip from a documentary where Ron talks about writing Lady Lynda: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SVB-EvYtNw

I remember hearing Lady Lynda on BBC Radio 1 when it was released as a single from LA (Light Album) and was delighted that my fave group had released a credible single.

And blow me down, it reached number 6. At school, my fandom didn't seem to uncool, suddenly.

A year later, September 1980, I heard Surf's Up for the first time, also on Radio 1 – Kid Jensen's parting shot, in fact – and I realised just how cool that band could have been.
