Mike doesn't seem to be in great shape lately:

(Skip the first minute when you watch it to get to the recent bit)

And it's strangely hard for him to find the words in this interview, don't you think?

It's somehow not the Mike Love I'm used to. Huh

I think that varies from time to time. Here are some recent audience recordings:

He's looking more and more like a boiled ham. But for a 70-year old he's still professioanlly active, that says a lot.

I reckon he'll die on stage.*

*Literally. He's died metaphorically on stage many times.

When I saw the January Reagan thing, I was concerned too, but at Epsom backstage, he was just fine. Hope I'm in that shape when I'm 70. Hell, I'm 55 now and not in that shape !

Worried? I watched the interview - classic Love, selling the merchandise, pushing the movies with his songs in, classic stuff. Cousin Brian, harmonies, Pet Sounds. The whole shebang.

His life has to be exhausting.   All of that traveling, performing, staying in hotel rooms all of these years, eating what is available, staying on top of the career and the business....not to mention numerous wives, families etc.  I agree Andrew.  I still have a few years to 70 but after a week at work and a few trips to the gym, I'm tired.  I've often wondered just how many BeachBoys shows Mike has performed in his career.  He might just hold some kind of showbiz record.

It was almost 4000 by the end of 2000, so assuming about 100/year since then, gotta be close to 5000. Probably more.

Dammit.  I'm only about an hour and half away, I would have went if I knew they were there.  Christian sounds good, btw.  I like how he sings Kokomo. (I know it's not on these vids)

I'm not old but I agree, constantly being on tour, at 70?  That's crazy.  I guess he doesn't know anything else, though, that's what he's always done.

Mike will still be strutting his stuff on stage when he hits the big 100.

Maybe by the time the 60th anniversary of the Beach Boys comes around Mike will be around 6000.  Wink

I just saw a Mike/Bruce show about a month ago, and actually felt compelled to record California Girls on my phone to prove to my dad that Mike sounded as great as he did. If you didn't know better, you'd think it was 1965 again* from the sound of his voice.

*I can only assume, since I wasn't born till almost 20 years later.

Cousin Brian quit touring in like 1964 or something. Know why? He's melancholy. Mike, on the other hand, is Fun, Fun, Fun. Positive. I'd like to see the Stones try their hand at I Get Around.

I was at the Epsom concert and I thought Mike looked very good for his age! I was at the front so could see him up close and he seemed fine! There was a point where he knelt down and I was worried he couldn't get up but in regards to his voice? Well, like others have said here, it's not that much different to 50 years ago. I just can't believe that he has been singing the same songs for that long, but then BB songs never get boring and over-played!

As a fan in my 20s I just couldn't believe I was seeing the same person I had been watching on youtube from the 60s. That is mad.

Thank you, originals. But I must defer all credit to Mike Love. When I watch their older live videos and see Mike having fun it really makes me love life. Sometimes in his pothead yogi days he would just dance to himself in his own little world and it's very life affirming to see.  Transcendental Meditation

AL JARDINE THE DEVILISH PRANKSTER

Everybody watch this right now. Look at Al when Carl flubs a bit of the solo. He has an absolutely devilish grin on his face! He says something in that Al Jardine voice like "Oh, Carl..." that sounds sarcastic like he's HIGHLY amused at Carl's embarrassing mistake on live television - while, if you hadn't noticed, Al's guitar is punking away like an unstoppable rock and roll machine.

Just saw Mike last month and he sounds better than he did from 1983-2004 which is weird.  Some songs better than others obviously, a few times his voice was a little weak.
