I started watching youtube clips because of this thread which, in turn, got me choked up seeing footage of Carl.  Sometimes I'm reminded of how much I miss his presence on the stage and in the group.  Andfor the record, Mike's a badass, even at 70!

He's looking more and more like a boiled ham. But for a 70-year old he's still professioanlly active, that says a lot.

I reckon he'll die on stage.*

*Literally. He's died metaphorically on stage many times.

Cousin Brian quit touring in like 1964 or something. Know why? He's melancholy. Mike, on the other hand, is Fun, Fun, Fun. Positive. I'd like to see the Stones try their hand at I Get Around.

I thought of that scene Mike made a few years ago when I posted my empathic response.  But you know, he does have a right to crow a bit for staying at it as a WORKING performer all of these years.  The Stones make a big f----ing production out of a 30 city tour.  And don't get me wrong, cause I'm a big fan of the unsinkable Keith Richards.

And by the way ghost, what name did you post under previously?  Just curious cause your tone and style seem familiar.....

I can barely tell Mike and Bruce apart any more.  I hope they donated their necks to a worthy cause.

I wish Mike would write a book about all the years of touring...he has got to have STORIES.  Funny stories on and off stage, encounters with all kinds of fans, weird stuff that happened, the strangest venue/hotel/country they experienced, how things changed and how they stayed the same.  How he felt about the Maharishi tour, the James Watt episode, playing on the Mall in DC and the beach in Atlantic City in front of hundreds of thousands of people.  His favorite show ever, and the show where everything went wrong.  What it was like to step on stage without Carl or Dennis.  Just his story without any of the typical Beach Boys b.s., and with his own sarcastic sense of humor.

If they get John Stamos to come on stage and pretend to play the guitar for the BB San Francisco 50th anniversary show.... I am going to have a real hard time not throwing a wine bottle at his face. I get that it probably brings middle aged housewives into the county fairs and whatnot. But no. Enough. FUJS.

My name is Mike Love. I'm an original Beach Boy. I wrote many of the Beach Boys' most well known songs with my cousin Brian. I've been touring for 40 years now, 180+ dates a year. I've sang Be True To Your School 895,000 times. I hear it in my sleep, playing in almost infinite slow motion. Whennnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I'm legally insane from this job. I lost it all to a jug of apple juice back in the early 70s.

Check out John Stamos at the begining of "Wouldn't It Be Nice".  Is this his version of "I'm In Great Shape"?

Damn.  I haven't seen Mike sing like that since the 80's.  He's actually putting effort into it!  Go Mike!

Plus, John Stamos is cool.  Why all the hate?  He's a nice guy, or they wouldn't let him hang around.  He genuinely loves the band, and is a huge fan.  More power to him.

And yes, I'm the type of person who likes people simply because they're nice.

More truth: Full House was a good show.

Yes, Mike can be a great performer.

Yes, John Stamos probably is a really cool guy to meet sometime and chat about whatever comes to mind.

You are very cool for being cool and accepting others who are also cool (for being nice) and that is highly admirable.

But I cannot (and have never been able to) sit through an entire episode of Full House. I am highly allergic to both "laugh tracks" and Bob Saget. I hope you understand that I am a nice guy too?

Yeah, he looks in better shape there. Now I'm not that worried anymore. He only slurs "this is the worst trip I've ever been on", but I think that could be intentional. Obviously it takes him more effort to do that good a performance, but he still makes it.

The band is quite good, too. The lead vocals are even better than on Brian's band. Roll Eyes

I like Full House too (though not as much as Family Matters. I'm an Urkel fan  LOL) but Stamos always seemed like a pretty boy to me. Something about him I can't stand.

Wow, I'd TOTALLY go see these guys if this is how they sound! Wow, cool shirt Mike! Trippy as f***, goshdarn those TM visuals! Fractalized Maharishi Mantras of Sound synesthetically becoming images in Mike's meditating mind.

Bruce's shirt is, no surprise, boring.

I wonder if Al & Bruce in their dull old age seeing that Mike & Brian survived just fine after inhaling ungodly amounts of pot smoke regret not imbibing similarly themselves? Let's face it, Al & Bruce are no better off than Mike or Brian, really. Their sobriety has not helped advance them past Mike & Brian one bit. Sure Al will probably outlive them all but that's due to his garden gnome genes. When it's time for Al to die the water just evaporates out of his body and he turns into a stone sculpture. Children pull on his big ears and make a wish.

Yeah, to each his own I don't sit around watching the show either.  I wasn't talking about you however, I was talking about the guy (and sentiments I've heard before) suggesting they'd murder John Stamos if possible.  LOL  Full house had it's place, and it's audience, and good for Stamos that he looks good, made a lot of money, married a hot model, and gets to be on stage with the Beach Boys.  We should all be so lucky.

but i was a 13 year old boy anyway...

i think howard stern asked him once
if he ever did the dirty boogie with the olsen twins
he said.... it was an ambiguous answer
