Does a vintage 1966/67 studio recording of Barnyard exist with the backing vocals, but without the animal sounds? If so, does it circulate?

AFAIK, no. The backing track of Barnyard with the BVs and animal sounds on most Smile boots is acetate sourced. I think Capitol still has the multitracks for the backing itself, though.

Well, just wait a couple of months, and you should have all the raw material you need.
