Damn shame...at the age of 27, too.

Thats a shame that she died, the curse of rock stars dying at age 27 strikes again.  Sad

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

Shocking, but hardly unexpected. Whatever the cause, no-one should die at 27.

Just read this a few minutes ago and wasn't surprised. A few weeks back I was exchanging e-mail chuckles with a friend of mine about a YouTube video showing Amy real wasted on stage and her band trying to hold it together.  But alcohol and drug addiction isn't funny at all.  Another wasted talent who couldn't make it past 27.  Very sad.

I, I love the colorful clothes she wears, and she's already working on my brain. I only looked in her eyes, but I picked up something I just can't explain. I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

Very sad news indeed. You always hope people with her level of talent somehow pull through to a more positive place.

I was never a fan, but it's an awful waste of a young life. Rest in peace, Amy.

The temptation is to just shrug it off - oh, just like Cobain or Hendrix or Janis or w/e - but it's still sad and I was shocked when I found out.

I'm not much of a fan nowadays, but she was a constant radio presence in formative years, and so it feels weird. She obviously had great pain in her life.

I know that everybody liked to poke fun at her about how f***ed up she was, but damn it, she had talent. Here was a person who came along and actually played REAL MUSIC with a real band. It was a breath of fresh air to see and hear somebody who had genuine talent. Not only that, but she had a genuine love and respect for those who came before her. I remember Bill O'Riley and his cronies making fun of her when she won those grammy's, but I believed she deserved every one of them.

Well said, it's really a shame that she couldn't shake her demons, she really could have been a great beacon of light for this generation of musicians.  So sad to see such talent wasted and now gone.  If nothing else, I hope she has finally found some peace.

What do you mean by this?

As you probably guessed, I was comparing Amy unfavourably to others in that "club". Perhaps I should think twice before making statements about a musician I really don't know enough about. It was a needless (read: tasteless) remark for an In Memoriam topic so I've edited it out. My apologies.

Thank you. That was pretty powerful stuff. You know, BtB was among the albums a friend sent me quite a while ago----I think I played it once when it arrived. Maybe it's time I revisited it. :=)

They've changed it now, but originally the Hollywood Today site article about Winehouse had Brian Wilson as a member of the 27 Club.

Yikes, people still act like Brian is the ultimate drug casualty.

I don't really find it tasteless. Can't dispute hard facts. A lot of (maybe most) musicians who died at 27 were either full blown addicts or at least dabbled in opiates. Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison, Cobain, Winehouse.

It's a shame when somebody extremely talented and still so early in their life gets sucked into that world. Some people make it out, a lot don't. She definitely had her down moments in the past few years and it's a damn shame she didn't get a chance to get clean.

Heroin fucks you up. Undecided

With all due respect, Hendrix doesn't belong in that category. He never has and never will. It really annoys me that everybody and their brother in the media likes to throw him in with everybody else. He was 27 when he died though.
