Good Vibrations and Sesame Street?
«

Did Good Vibrations inspire the original Sesame Street tune?
The show was also conceived in 1966, the same year Good Vibrations was released.
I always felt the similarities were uncanny!

Can't see it myself… there was only a month between Vibes' release and the launch of Sesame Street… not sure that would even have allowed time as the theme tune would have to have been written and recorded well in advance of that.

Actually Sesame street was conceived in 66' and premiered in 1970. For many years i always felt the two tunes were similar in chord progression and cadence on PARTS of the song .

Apologies - I was misreading Wiki (double jeopardy!) which states conceived in 66, first broadcast 69. Can't find a date for the writing of the theme tune…

the I - IV- I7 - IV chord progression used in the chorus of GV and in the Sesame Street theme is very common in pop music.
i even remember hearing an interview from around 1964 with john and paul larking about on the piano, and at one point john plays that progression and bemoans its over-use. this used to be on youtube but i can't find it now.
hi by the way, i'm new!

Well, GoodVibes was inescapable that year — and Jim Henson was a far-out dude — check this collaboration with Raymond Scott, also in 1966:

Could've sworn Sesame Street started airing in 1969.

Ahhh yes, before he became the guy behind Sesame Street, he initially was against children's programming, preferring variety shows and the avant-garde. Haven't seen this in a while. Still great as always.

Yes Jim was pretty far out . Imagine a Jim Henson, Brian Wilson ,Van Dyke Parks co-collaborated SMile in 1966!!

It surely inspired Michel Colombier for the "DIM DAM DOM" (french TV show) opener:

This other french ad is less obvious but there's defintely some brian-esque spirit in the harmonies:

"Carl's Big Chance" is the theme to Sesame Street and this information will save lives.

Wow that's amazing. I might even overdub some Sesame St vocals over this and post it on you tube.

Ok, I'll start my own thread based on strongly-inspired-to-blatant-plagiarism of "Good Vibrations" and other Beach Boys songs.
