Oh my God yes.

The scary part about the Budd Dwyer footage is that it aired, unedited, on Channel 6 (ABC) in Philadelphia during the five and six o'clock news...

I don't think he ever accepted any kind of bribe...the American "justice system" ate him up and spit him out.

My dad talked about seeing it unedited. I was kind of surprised at that. There was another live suicide from the 1970's. A women shot herself during a news broadcast. I've never seen the film. I don't think any copies exist.

This thread has gone from a casual discussion of odd, weird, scary, or disturbing music to a rotten.com-lite.

Since we're talking about odd, weird, scary, or disturbing music...

Bill Holt.

This guy is one of the true enigmas in "pop" music. Born and raised in Philadelphia, great fan of the Beatles, Bob Dylan and such, corporate suit and tie worker, he quit his job in 1972 in order to follow his musical muse and wrote and recorded what became 1973's Dreamies on a TEAC 4-track recorder with only acoustic guitar, Moog Sonic 6, a very primitive drum machine, a pocket watch, and hundreds of snippets of found sound (political speeches, news clips, advertisements, Beatles songs, nature field recordings; effectively one of the first uses of sampling) as his instruments. One of the most confounding yet amazing albums to ever come out of the 1970s. He wasn't able to immediately follow it up, since he had to return to the 9 to 5 lifestyle in order to support his family as he was out of work almost eighteen months and living on savings; the sequel Dreamies Program Twelve (The End Is Near) came in 2006, a few years after he retired from his company. Both are required listening. Unfortunately neither are anywhere on YouTube but can be found on the usual sites for purchase.

Just dig the album cover...

Found a blog with that on. Am going to wait until my next 'noise' phase, wherein it'll quickly become my favourite album of all time, I'm sure  Grin

Disturbing in a different sense is the hour-long Sinking Of The Titanic by Gavin Bryars (NOT the one with Alter Ego and Phillip Jeck). Put on in a darkened room, lie down, feel yourself sink into the ocean with the orchestra....

I'm not sure what to say about this, so I'm just going to post the link without saying much. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oN8hwjsfqTk&feature=related

Ehhhh...it's not really "noise music". It jumps between and intersects folk and pop/rock with the electronics and the sound samples.

Of course i posted that and ended up listening to the first side.... i kinda say 'noise' to distinguish from more song-based stuff, which is where my head is at atm. But that was so dreamy and good! Going to play it in full tonight with a beer and headphones  Grin

If you got it off of a blog it's most likely from the lousy 2000 CD reissue taken from a very scratchy vinyl. Bill Holt put out his own reissue in 2006 from his own master and it sounds MUCH better. Definitely worth the cash. I think Amazon has it for like $10.

There are three recordings I wish I had never listened to. Hamburger Lady, Frankie Teardrop, and the complete 45 minute Jim Jones "death tape".

I just listened to Hamburger Lady and it made me genuinely feel ill. I hope it doesn't give me nightmares tonight.

Here's the Beatles Revolution 9 played backwards if you have the stamina for it.

Failed to hear the words "Charlie, Charlie, send us a telegram!" anywhere on the recording.

I made the mistake of listening to these Recordings of Shortwave Numbers Stations late one Saturday night when everyone else had gone to bed. Not a good idea.
