Please put news about the release date here. Thanks.

So, first it was July 12th, then August 9th:

http://www.directcurrentmusic.com/dc-music-news-feed/2011/5/4/beach-boys-smile-sessions-bumped-to-august-9-street-date.html

And now, from Facebook:

Peter Reum: "Looking forward to the new Mojo with the Cabin Essence/Wonderful 45! This time, maybe we will sell a million units in January...or maybe fewer...but the point is that this time it`s coming out!"

Brian Christie: "The article says the box set should be out in September, so at least we now have a ballpark date...."

And here's the MOJO interview that says September:

Peter's "January" comment is, of course, a reference to the 12/66 Capitol salesmen's disc.

My gut feeling is late summer. Late, late summer.

Andrew's probably right. However, at present, I think the most official release date is currently August 9th.

On the other hand: why not January, then they can use the old promos... Grin

But a million units? Hmmm...

When we know the official date it will be put up on both Brian's and the band's facebook pages. Until then any date is just a guess or a "gut feeling".

Maybe, but you'd most likely need a Ouija board to ask her.

Asking an astrologer about the release date of your new cosmically connecting spiritual music seems appropriate, but asking an astrologer about the release date of your tibute to how great America could be seems the way things get portrayed.

CD WOW have smile's release date at 09/08/2011 priced at €13.99, obviously the double disc.

Emailed them and the lady said that's the release date that was "given to them"

FWIW, the US version of that site also has August 9 as the release date for the 2-CD set.  It's listed at $19.99.

Makes sense...a clever way for Capitol to get us fanatics to buy both, as well as buy a little extra time to put the box set package together.  I hope TSS won't be overshadowed by the Pink Floyd reissues in Sept.

CDWow's UK site also has it available as a pre-order but unlike Amazon it seems they take the money now and don't guarantee that, should the price chance before release, you'll get the lower of the two.  Think I'll wait…

What a bummer. If they had been released at the same time, I would have just bought the box. With this coming first I'll have to buy it, how could I not? It will be in the shop singing "Buy Me" in 4 part barbershop style, with some cheeky fuzz bass and tack piano thrown in.

It's because they know that the real money they're going to make from this are from the sad SMiLE anoraks such as you guys (not me of course)

Let's face it... Many of us here will buy both the box set and the double-CD, regardless of whether they're released simultaneously.  Heck, some of us will even buy multiple copies of both sets.

Though the 2-CD set almost certainly will not contain any tracks not included in the box, both sets will undoubtedly have their own unique packaging and artwork.  In other words, I very much doubt that the box will include a retail version of the 2-CD set as its Discs 1 and 2.  The liner notes of the two packages may differ.  Also, Disc 2 of the double-CD might be a "best of the rest" (i.e., a sampler of what's on Discs 2, 3 and 4 of the box).  Other than for budgetary reasons, why would the hardcore fan not want to own both?
