The "I Know Brian's Dad" buttons...

Ok, this really is a pedantic & nerdy question but if ever there was a place to ask it, this is it!
I've searched for past threads here about the buttons that various books & articles on the group depicts Murry as having handed out during concerts. I haven't found anything yet proving that these really did exist other than the fact that people close to the group have mentioned them.
Personally, I think there's something a bit fishy about the button story. The thought of Murry passing them out just seems to fit too well with the general way his persona has always been portrayed in BB fandom. For someone wanting to emphasize Murry's quest for recognition and the way he rode the coattails of his famous sons, the button story is right on the mark for dramatic effect. But how do we know whether it actually took place in real life or not? Which leads me to asking if anyone here know when this story was mentioned for the first time?
Has anyone here ever seen one of the buttons? With a group as popular as the Beach Boys, you'd think that at least one original button would have survived until today in the collection of a hardcore fan? But then there is of course the risk of a button being a hoax or a homemade fan relic, i.e. the recent discussion on Ed's polaroid of a tape boxes.
I'd love to hear more about this, admittedly, minor topic in the BB world - and hope to be proven wrong by someone readily posting a photo of an old, faded 'I know Brian's Dad" button.

Can't give any info but if there's such a button out there I wanna have one !! Think it's the funniest thing in the BBs history !! Would love to have a t-shirt with that slogan. Could become a new trend....

I'd like to see a photo of someone wearing one...along with some bruise and black-eye makeup!
On a related note...I'm still kicking myself for not buying all of the sealed Murry Wilson albums I saw in a thrift shop in Burbank around 1989...maybe a buck apiece...I didn't think at the time anyone would want 'em!

Not trying to be an ass, but shouldn't there be an apostrophe before the "s" in "Brians"?

God must’ve smiled the day Brian Wilson was born!
"ragegasm" - /rāj • ga-zəm/ : a logical mental response produced when your favorite band becomes remotely associated with the bro-country genre.
Ever want to hear some Beach Boys songs mashed up together like The Beatles' 'LOVE' album? Check out my mix!

I'd like to see Brian's face if someone wears a shirt with this at one of his concerts (or the reunion-concert !!) and Brian would see it.....

... in order to get back on track - no one has seen any of these alleged buttons? Andrew, what about you? Do you know where & when the story of Murry handing them out first appeared?
