I love a lot of the ex-E6 bands! The best album is Neutral Milk Hotel's Aeroplane Over the Sea, but I love Of Montreal, Beulah (RIP), and plenty of the others, too. I've got dozens of E6 discs.

NMH's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea may be my favorite album ever, but it sounds exactly nothing like anything else on E6 I've heard.  Of the more representative 60s pop-influenced bands, I like Olivia Tremor Control a lot.

i like that NMH album, but it doesnt do that much for me.
its just a good album, not a special album.
to me, that is.

Olivia Tremor Control and Of Montreal are probably my favourites.
Dusk At Cubist Castle (OTC) is probably the best E6 album.

Elf Power are pretty good too, but their last album was pretty appalling.

E6 was its biggest back in 1999.  I saw Elf Power open for Olivia Tremor Control and
it was an awesome experience!  It seemed a real great movement was underway..
but then it splintered off and died.  Neutral Milk Hotel and Olivia Tremor Control are
great.  The first few Elf Power albums are great.  The first Music Tapes album is an
interesting listen..  I love Of Montreal (except the new album and direction) but they
aren't as E6 as the others.. it's more a loose connection.

I never cared for Apples in Stereo.  Too nasal and meaningless.  Then there are those
other-related bands like Beulah that aren't very good.  Now each OTC member has
their own band and there are a billion bands who can claim to be E6.  But it's really
less than 10.

Beulah are probably in my top 5 bands ever (actually no probably about it) . Really like of montreal as well, though im finding most of their albums ive got dont live up to the excellent "gay parade" album. NMH album is great, have some other related stuff as well like the minders and ladybug transistor which are quite good.

'In the Aeroplane Over the Sea', I purchased recently. It's the only elephant-6 thing I've heard.  Only listened to it twice.  They're American, aren't they?  The guy sounds like has has a west country (in Britain) accent.

The Minders get the most spins for me with Apples and OTC right behind.
The Music Tapes are a bit too noisey for my tastes.

Yes, Jeff Mangum (lead singer) is from Ruston, Louisiana, which is pretty much where E6 began.

I absolutely love most all of the E6 bands/material that I have heard.  I only got into this stuff a couple of years ago after checking out Of Montreal's Satanic Panic In The Attic album becuase I thought the cover art was so cool!  Talk about a lucky find!  Of Montreal is probably my favorite of the collective.  Their "The Gay Parade" album totally blew my mind!  One of my favortie records.  I love NMH's "In An Aeroplane Over The Sea" record and Olivia Tremory Control's "Black Foliage".  Very interesting stuff!  Also for just good fun time pop/rock I dont think you can beat the Appels In Stereo.  Lots of really cool interesting stuff going on in those bands!
