f*ck life @ it actually being typed as "SMiLE" on the back. Things like the main wikipedia article on Smile are about to get real fun.

The version you had was sped up. This os the corect speed.
I'm not sure Brian is supposed to sound like that. Everyone agreed that the song on Unsurpassed Masters Vol. 17 was slow. This is the same thing. It's just puzzling how sensitive people are to every little thing yet nobody else is noticing this.
I didn't just have one version. Brian's vocals are quite.. off, here.

Who agreed? The sped up version was the one that always sounded "off" to me. The sped up version sounds like someone was attempting to correct the key to that of "She's Goin' Bald". I can't see the guys being so careless, and they may have had the multitracks for this one.

I only listened to the samples of tracks 1-19 on disc 1. For the most part, i'm very pleased with what i've heard. I'm just happy that i can finally listen to some of these tunes without feeling like i have wax in my ears. I really like the Fall Breaks vocals on Fire and i love that little Carl vocal bit on Surf's Up.
As for things i wasn't too pleased with...I don't like how they crossfaded "Plymouth Rock Roll over" into Bicycle Rider. I know the crossfade is barely there, but still, that moment when the vocals end and the BR theme starts up was always one of my favourite SMiLE pieces. Like others have said, i think the vocals in IIGS could have come in a split second earlier. Sounds a little off to me. I understand the intent to put those very brief vocals on Look, but it just seems pointless to me. I don't mind them.
They just don't add anything to the song, for me...and i can't imagine Joe Public thinking otherwise.
Other than those very minor complaints, i loved everything i heard. Man, i just want this week to fly by.
Speak for yourself. And whatever happened to "George Farts Into His French Horn"? How come that session isn't represented in this set?

I wonder if she will she be the source of the (future) leak?

Regarding the speed of "He Gives Speeches"....
Yeah, when I first heard it in F# I placed it immediately before "The Old Master Painter" in my custom
Smile
, as it blends in perfectly with that. Then when I heard it on UM17 that just about killed that thought...however, it does sound even (ever so slightly) SLOWER on TSS....seriously, Brian doesn't sound natural...
Also...remember "It's Over Now" on
Good Vibrations
in the key of F# and how weird Carl sounded?? I later heard the same song on an
Adult/Child
bootleg sped up to the key of G, and Carl sounded like his normal self, and it became apparent to me that it was a WOMAN singing the bridge (most likely Marilyn)!! Mark Linett swore up and down that the song was mastered at the speed that was indicated on the tape. My thought: the song was indeed recorded in F#, just like on Brian's demo; then when they overdubbed the vocals they sped it up to a more comfortable key in which to sing...but the playback is virtually kinda-sorta locked in at the slower speed....

Just something very small I noticed about the CIFOTM chorus (with the vocals). It seems like there is an edit in the track at the last of 4 rounds of vocals. (The last "child, child...father of the man..."). You should focus on the snare drum (if that's what it is). On the bootlegs and the mono backing track, at that point the snare hits at the start of the measure , and not on the 2 and 4. In the new tracks, the snare doesn't hit on the "1" but on the 2 and 4. Does anyone else think they may have edited the track or backing track for the new release?

I'm in Ireland and we got a few here, one right in the heart of town.
I know the guys and girls who work there and they are putting a 2cd and a vinyl to the side for me just incase it's sells out by the time I get in after college...
I was talking to them just today and it seems a lot of people have been asking about smile's release date, tower are expecting to sell out
