While trolling through Amazon, I found a two Vinyl set of The Smile Sessions for under $20.00, if anybody is interested.

I'm stoked to see the Carl and Dennis tracks are being included. I've wanted to mention them before but was worried I might get jumped on for them not being 'offical' Smile tracks. As for the '67 Surf's Up, I can't begin to get my head round how a "Wild Honey" style run though of that will sound.

I was just going to settle for the 2CD set but now I'm starting to think I might have to starve myself for the next month or two.

'Tis a great time to be a BB fan.

Im really peed off that the Smile promo video on You Tube has been blocked in my Country.
Did anyone else have this happen?

Yes, nice work Capitol/EMI, that's a great way to make friends.

At least its till available on the BB page http://www.amazon.com/The-Beach-Boys/e/B000APTGZ0/ref=ntt_mus_dp_pel on amazon.com

It seems quite bizaare that they would block a PROMO video.
A bit of free publicity would been beneficial to them I would've thought.
Dumb decision EMI.!!

Well I figure it it would eventually happen but that was really fast!! Guess somebody is really reading this board after all..
I hoped it would last until EMI made it available at a better location and in full screen but it's their video so if they want to block it.. fine!!
But if it helped getting a few more pre-orders then I'm glad!

1 - track was going to be on the album

2 - the birth of Brian's modular method

3 - because I insisted.

OK, maybe one of those might be untrue...

So, apart from a few songs on the vinyl discs, no stereo mix of 'Smile' then?

I would have thought a mono mix and an alternative stereo mix would have been preferable? You can't claim historical accuracy as a reason for mono-only, as if that really mattered there'd be no Smile release at all... And besides, Brian would almost certainly have mixed in stereo if he had hearing in both ears.

I guess there aren't enough 'stems' to make full stereo mixes of a lot of the material - so they thought the space would be better served by more session highlights?

Mark did say that the sessions discs would be in stereo, though.

Unless I'm mistaken all of the tracks were recorded in mono, so the only true stereo you'll get ,listening to the promo's is Duophonic or fake stereo.
AGD will probably know more.

You're mistaken there - Nothing is 'recorded in mono'. That would mean one microphone capturing an entire session.

But I guess a lot of the reference mixes and edits and things Brian made in 66/67 that they are going on are in mono. They're mono mixes, not recordings.

OK, nos. 2 and 3 are fair enough, but really, GV is a unique one-off piece of work, and isn't it right that BW only applied the modular method to Smile because it worked so well on GV?

In terms of style, sound, dynamics, mood etc., etc. GV is (in my mind at least) totally unrelated to Smile, which has an emotional vibe entirely of its own, as does GV.

Isn't it likely that GV is/was on the Smile track list for exactly the same reasons that it was on the Smiley track list?

Edit: N.B. This is one of my pet peeves, so feel free to ignore me if you think GV belongs on Smile... Smiley

Interesting that the track list for the box does not give any track lenghts, unlike the 2 disc set..

Will the '45 be the only way to hear H&V parts 1 and 2?

And what about the digital download? Will that contain all the tracks that are on vinyl, if so it looks like its the box, 2 disc and (legit) download for me!
