One can honestly make the case they were meant to be instrumental!

Especially "Holidays", that never felt suited for vocals to me...

"Holidays" is one of my favorite pieces of SMiLE music, and its appearance on the box, fully mixed and crystal clear, will definitely be one of the highlights for me!

Two things I just thought about...

"Heroes and Villains (Part 1)" and "Heroes and Villains (Part 2)" are included among the session excerpts - are these tracks simply H & V session highlights divided into two tracks? There are no other full songs on Disc 2 with the possible exception of...

"Surf's Up (Piano Demo)" which I had assumed would be the solo Brian version BUT now I'm thinking it really is just a piano demo, meaning all you hear is the piano (like the "Don't Talk" piano demo on PET SOUNDS SESSIONS)...

...and, therefore, the 1967 solo "Surf's Up" is the piano demo plus Brian's vocals we're familiar with from the GV Box Set.

I guess this is the "worse case scenario" and, really, it's fine with me as this looks to be a fantastic collection. I guess we'll find out more soon.

But the "Surf's Up" demo that we know from the GV box was recorded in 1966, so it should be the first version you list -- and it should be unfaded, because the time listed in the track listing is 20 seconds longer than the GV box version.

The 1967 demo remains, at this point, a mystery.

Oh, man. Thank God all this is coming out NOW, before Hurricane Irene wipes out the East Coast of the U.S. and potentially knocks power out for several days...

I saw that video and my best laid plans of going to a shop and getting on the day of release are buggered. Pre-ordered!

£126, as it tots up to with the fastest shipping and with the price hikes, is still insanely good.

Wow!  Thanks for posting!

It looks like 2 sides of the vinyl have the Capitol label (unless these are mockups different from the final product).  The box itself has the title lettering on the side, whereas the photo posted on Amazon does not.

We see 21 pages of the 60-page book...I am very excited about the sessionography.   And I'm glad the original booklet is separate...allows for more info/pictures in the book.

Exciting!

The demo is dated 12/15/66, so it's the 1993 box version. The 1967 (solo) version is... something else.

This might be sacreligious to admit, but I have never been the world's biggest Smile fan.  I mean I certainly appreciate the work, it's just that the 64-66 period is more to my liking.  That being said, I have to admit I am pretty excited about the set, and have pre-ordered the 5 cd edition.  Mostly, I might be excited about the book, sessionology, liner notes by Brian, Mike, Al and Bruce, etc.  Pretty cool packaging to say the least.  Most disappointing aspect? That Dennis and Carl, who may have had the most compelling words to say, are not part of the liner notes.  I know, even with this, we always have something to complain about...
