Thanks to Fishmonk for doing all that research to try and match up what's on the box etc and what we might already have.
I would only offer a word of caution - whilst we have the session dates and title, we won't know if we have the stuff until we hear it - I don't believe UM etc are complete - there is plenty of stuff I don't believe we have heard and I hop most of it will turn up on the box.
I am sure Mark and Alan know exactly what is available on bootleg and will hopefully try and avoid duplication unless absolutely necessary
SOT UM are far from complete.

Capitol forgot to inform us about an important feature of the new Smile sets:
John Stamos has provided additional vocals to complete a number of songs, in some places he overdubbed himself even. And: numerous tracks have been speeded up and been adorned with that nice modern 'dance' rhythm. To get totally, like, in sync with the vibe of todays kids, man. It's the BPMs that count in these days. Close harmony is on the way out anyway.
Excellent.
Any answer to that quote requires a suicide smiley.
...and thank you for your diplomacy...

Oh, like: you open the box carefully and full of expectation, and then a tiny cannon in it spouts your room full with confetti, or shaving foam. And you're supposed to laugh and have a beer on it all.
And they say the Germans have no sense of humor...

As a matter of fact, the Germans always had a sense of humor. But until the last one or two decades, they took humor fucking serious. Comedy just for the fun of laughing was put down by the media, it always had to be some political ans/or social statement.
Carnival though always was sheer insanity despite its many political satires.

Not everybody has every bootleg. So the choice should be between which outtakes seem essential and which don't.

Not sure if this has been posted. The price went up to $170 on amazon.
Would still be a steal.
I have to admit I'd buy the box if it were $470 even If it meant scrimping and saving for a couple of months. It's just a once In a lifetime must have box set.
Having said that I was more than happy(and lucky) to score it for the $110
.
The way this thread is going we'll make 500 pages by November!
Problem is it's not just _one box_... ;/

And when the official annuncement from Capitol/EMI is made, it will be interesting to see if they announce an actual retail price. I'm guessing it will be $95 in the USA

The alt DaDa must qualify as one of the earliest recordings of a Rhodes, no?
I was thinking that as well, but the Rhodes piano had been on the market since 1965 when CBS bought out Leo Fender. Before that Rhodes was known for the smaller "Piano Bass" keyboard that Ray Manzarek used live with The Doors, then they did the full-size piano to compete with Wurlitzer's electric piano, which basically owned the market in the US until Rhodes caught on.
It was an early use of a relatively new instrument, but I'm guessing not as early as we might have thought. Offhand I don't know when the first hit record featuring a Rhodes piano was made.

I almost jumped out of my skin when I saw the price at $110.00, considering that I was expecting $200. At that price I was even able to have it delivered to my door on November 1st. for $7.98. So, thank you to all for posting the Amazon info on Saturday before Irene struck through my neck of the woods.

Maybe I'm nuts, but I opted to wait until Amoeba gets them in on November 1st. I'm one of those guys who don't want to take a chance at one of the Joe Montana wanna-be's at UPS throwing the shipping container around and effing up my SMiLE box and CD sets. Less chance of dings and dents and creases and rips and scratches and scuffs if I pick it up in person. Plus I might have a choice of selecting from multiple copies at the store. That's what I did with my Beatle stereo and mono box sets. I'm picky that way. Just want these things to look real purty in the ol' Beach Boys collectione.

I, I bet I know what she’s like, and I can feel how right she’d be for me. It’s weird how she comes in so strong, and I wonder what she’s picking up from me. I hope it’s good, good, good, good vibrations, yeah!!

If I had a decent bricks & mortar record store closer than London, I'd do exactly the same thing.

Yeah, give the smaller guy some business, you know? Otherwise, they eventually might go the way of Tower and that wouldn't be good at all.

It wouldn't totally surprise me if there's more than meets the eye regarding the rapidly shifting prices at Amazon.com these past few days. It's interesting that the price of the box has changed twice while the prices of the 2CD and 2LP haven't moved at all. The Smile box is a unique set, and Capitol may not yet have finalized a suggested retail price. They may be working with Amazon to gauge demand at different price points so that they have a better idea of the optimal price.

That is my fear too. Unfortunately using Amazon and choosing two-day shipping is the only way I can guarantee that SMiLE will be in my hands come November 1st. Going by past experience the likelihood of any of the chain stores carrying a massive box set like this is slim to none. Usually if you want to order a copy of a box set from them you have to pre-order it and have it either delivered to the shop or more likely to your home which is obviously the same thing as ordering from Amazon. Amazon also usually sells their stuff at around a $10-$20 discount when compared to what the chain stores list their prices at so you end up saving a little green too.
My best guess is that if you are satisfied with just the two-disc package, then you can go shopping on 11-1 because the chain stores are going to stock that version. The box set or the vinyl package are going to have to be special ordered usually with some type of pre-payment involved and again most of the time it just gets shipped to your residence anyhow.

How unfortunate for you, poor soul. Perhaps if you tried a little harder in life you'd have more money to spend in the way of your own happiness & arbitrary pleasure rather than using it to sustain the vitality of your body and pay bills. As for me, I eagerly await my box set on my doorstep at 12:00-12:01am on 11/1/11. I've paid extra for gift wrapping - I wrote a message to myself -
"money buys happiness, love ghost"

I remember getting my Sea of Tunes Unsurpassed Masters SMiLE box set in the mail from Singapore and feeling lucky that it was still in new pristine condition. I also remember getting a Beatles BBC 10-CD box from New York and I had to send it back 'cause it looked like it just came out of a garbage dump. You never know.
