I would bet that deluxe Smile edition costs somewhere between $200 and $300.

I'll take that bet. Say, $50 ?  Smiley

I'd put my $ on between $100 and $150

I'd happily pay $150 - anything near $200 and I'm cringing a bit....at the $300 mark I am seriously questioning my sanity as I place the order on amazon LOL

What's intriguing here is that "Cabinessence" will now have to appear in mono for the first time!

O.K. I'm quoting myself, but I'm excited...

What happens with "Surf's Up"? Will it simply be the Brian solo version or will it be a newly-mixed version combining material recorded in '71, again in mono for the first time?

The release is called The Smile Sessions, not The Smile (and a little bit of Surf's Up) Sessions.  Grin

Hmm.  interesting comment, Andrew.  I've always assumed they would use the most complete existing tracks, including the 1971 "Surf's Up", but perhaps I am mistaken....??  In which case might they fly in Brian's vocal from the solo piano version to the backing track?  I am really trying to keep my expectations low for material we haven't heard before....but still wishing...

You say over $200.

I say, not.  That's the spread.  Smiley

But, if it has the 1968 "20/20" vocal overdubs it will have to be "folded down" mono, because it has always been stated that the multitracks for the 1968 overdubs can't be found.

I'd also think $100+, judging from similar packages.  But I'd be perfectly happy if AGD is correct!

I should amplify that I'm referring to a $50 bet, not the retail.

$300? No way. What's a reasonable price for a 4 CD set nowadays? $80 max, right? A new double LP? $40 max. A new 7" single? $10 max. So I'd be very surprised if this box would be over $150.

This is really a landmark day, the official announcement of a Smile Sessions set! I'm sure Messrs. Boyd & Linett are leaving no turn unstoned to locate previously unheard material, and I'm Praying for one last miracle! Wink

Ah, OK...$50 sounded extremely low for the package, I thought perhaps you'd meant 50 Pounds.

So maybe we'll get a legit issue of "George Fell Into His French Horn"?  The thought of that makes ME smile.  Also, the "Vegetables Arguments" please, although they might edit out Hal Blaine's dildo joke!

"There is no official release date yet, but look for it to materialize in late August or early September. "

Given past history even this mention of  slight uncertainty is disquieting.

Otherwise, IT'S PARTY TIME!
