Did they rerecord the complete songs for "Cassius Love vs Sonny Wilson" or just the bits that were used?

Hard to know.  Many of the original multitrack tapes for the album are missing, including this one (I believe).

It'll be very interesting to hear the tapes. Some bits sound as if they start in the middle of a performance so I guess they at least played a little more than just the bits. But since it probably was really just a rehearsal they might as well recorded over those performances

I don't understand why'd they'd bother re-recording those bits — why not use the existing takes in the can?

I'd be interested to know if a full rerecording for "Sufin' Safari" exists from this session. Notice how Brian is singing the chorus hook in his by now established falsetto, which he wasn't yet using when the original was cut.

A 20 minute version of "Bull Session With Big Daddy" is on SOT Vol. 8.

Also, a longer running "Our Favorite Recording Sessions" has circulated in collector's circles, but I've never heard it. I would like to hear that if someone out there would be so kind as to PM me!

Yeah, I'd like to hear the longer OFRS  in good quality, also. The longer version was originally planned for ASL, as evidenced by some early test pressings, but some of the "bits" were cut before release.

Brian used to record rehearsals for live shows, but I don't think that was the case here.
"Surfin' Safari" with piano, there must be a complete take!
