Hi everyone. Newbie (to the board, not the BB) here with a question.  I just finished reading the essay on the Cabinessence site about the copyright trial (written by Michael Kenny). It's an eye-opening read for those unfamiliar, but the final installment states that Kenny met with Mike's lawyer, Mr. Flynn, after the trial. It says Flynn said that "about 3 months after the trial had ended, that Mike and Brian had written eight songs together." Does anyone have any information about this? I posted this on Brian's website but was encouraged to ask here for obvious reasons. Thanks in advance!

Well, dunno about eight titles, but in early March 1995, they'd reportedly written two new tracks and demoed same with Carl. Check out the shortly-upcoming 1995 shows & sessions page of Bellagio 10452 for a little more detail.

AGD - on a similar theme - Do you know if Mike has gotten round to writing lyrics to the tune that Brian reportedly gave him at the 'reunion' in 2005?

 Cool

You mean 2006?  On the rooftop of Capitol?  And...Brian gave Mike a tune there?  That's the first I've heard of THAT!!  Where was that reported?

Yup it's said that Brian gave Mike a cassette copy of a tune he had done with the suggestion that Mike might want to write lyrics for it.

Now I don't remember exactly if this occurred on the day of the reunion at Capitol but it was around that time. It was reported but I can't remember where exactly. Jon Stebbins was there so he might recall something.

I think Mike himself told that story, but also told Brian that he'd rather start from scratch. Therefor I don't think anything happened with that tune. I wonder if it was something from TLOS

To sum it up, they blew it, they blew it consistently, they continue to blow it, it is tragic and this pathological problem caused The Beach Boys' greatest music to be so underrated by the general public.

The trial was in 1994, and Brian and Mike collaborated on those songs (including an intended theme for the show "Baywatch Nights") in 1995.  As far as I know, they haven't written together since then.

I guess that it's indicative of the lack of new "Beach Boys" material that we're talking about stuff that Brian and Mike wrote 14 years ago as their "new collaboration."  It's almost as if, in 1980, we were talking about their crazy new song "Good Vibrations."
