Is the "Heroes And Villains Demo" on ENDLESS HARMONY Brian playing Barnyard to Van Dyke Parks, or Humble Harv?

To Humble Harv.  Van Dyke is there, and joins in on the animal sounds.

Thank you!  Badman claims Brian performed Barnyard first for VD, then for HH.  It appears to be a Badman mistake.

To add to the rather large list of Badman mistakes.

Could we maybe make a list of exactly what mistakes are in Badman?  I always hear reference to "numerous mistakes" found in the book, but I have a hard time spotting any.

The only one I remember offhand is that one of his session dates for "Do You Like Worms" was incorrect.  As far as the Humble Harv demo goes, it's possible that Mr. Badman may have heard more of that tape than we collectors are privy to.

A list of Badman's errors would be about one-third the size of his actual book. Try this for size (and even **I** noticed it):

July 1966
5 - Comiskey Park, Chicago IL
6 - Peace Bridge Center, Buffalo NY
7 - War Memorial Hall, Syracuse NY
8 - Convention Center, Asbury Park NJ
16 - Arie Crown Theater, Chicago IL
17 - Arie Crown Theater, Chicago IL
18 - Arie Crown Theater, Chicago IL
21 - Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo NY
22 - Onodega County War Memorial, Syracuse NY
23 - Convention Center, Asbury Park NJ

So, 15 days after playing Buffalo, Syracuse and Asbury Park on successive days, The Beach Boys played... Buffalo, Syracuse and Asbury Park. On successive days. I don't think so, and Ian confirmed that there's duplication here. If you check out the tours info that Ian & I have put up, each gig marked with * had an error in it - either the info was wrong, or in many cases it was missed entirely.

Or where he has David Oppenheim discussing Brian's state of mind in late 1966: if you go back to the source article (the 1971 Rolling Stone 2fer by Nolan), it's obvious that the David doing the talking is David Anderle.

Or the summer '62 40 date tour of the midwest... the January '63 New York Keen studio session... totally misunderstanding the 2/8/62 session sheet...

Session info is, as I've found by putting up the tours/sessions pages, sometimes dubious. From what I and others can gather, Badman and his researchers just trawled the books and the 'net, threw everything into the pot and did little if any fact or proof reading. I don't ever see the book being reprinted as about a third of the text would need to be reset. If it is, hopefully the word 'definitive' will be removed from the title.

His account of Add Some Music/Sunflower's different versions and rejections is incorrect, cobbled together from earlier accounts that were in error (mistaking a comp tape for a finished Sunflower for example).

I have more Smile era errors at home, but I would think the above would give you an idea of some of the errors.  It's too bad because there is some good, new information in the book but it's hopelessly intermeshed with errors and incorrect second and third hand information, and figuring out which is which is difficult.

Hah!  I thought that was Van Dyke on animal sounds--though he told me he would NEVER have sunk to doing that!

This is the same man who willingly chanted "Rutabaga" on some of those strange vegetable chant pieces...
