Has anyone noticed that in the music player on Mike’s website there’s a track credited to the Beach Boys called “Golden Medley”? It’s a studio recording of the touring group going through a string of hits.

Here’s a direct link to the file: https://mikelove.com/wp-content//uploads//2016//04//golden-medley.mp3

Surprised this hasn’t been discussed before, considering that the file looks like it was put on the site in April 2016. Seems not too clearly labeled… makes it looks like it’s coming from the official Beach Boys recording entity, which as we all know is distinct from the touring group.

Hmmm. Maybe it's legal as it's just a freebie, rather than an official release for sale?

oh wow! didn't know about this, this for the link!
I actually wouldn't mind a Mike Love album with this approach even as
a reboot that it is, sure as hell better than that new 2017 DIA version.
it actually sounds pretty right to the touring band at least.

The original versions are all easily available, so why would anybody listen to this? Pointless.

I’ll also go ahead and mention that the version of “Alone On Christmas Day” in his website’s music player has a ~20 second longer fade than the one sold through iTunes: https://mikelove.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/01-Alone-MASTERED-2016.m4a

And production aside, I’d so much rather hear a 14 year old David Marks shred some guitar on Chug-a-lug than hear a 51 year old Mike Love sing about bangin some chick in a swimming pool.-rab2591

"Medley" isn't even the right word. This is "Wouldn't it Be Nice" which abruptly ends and after a few seconds of silence "I Get Around" starts which then abruptly ends and then "Surfin' USA".

What the hell is the point of this? Maybe they use it for commercials and radio spots to promote shows and someone in Mike's team thought ahh what the heck...throw it on the website!

It is probably for promoters wondering what 'The Beach Boys' of 2017 sound like.

These versions are actually pretty good. Are they the originals? No! But they have good energy and good vocals.

The songs themselves are executed exquisitely! Proof in the pudding that Mike's band is super tight. That being said, I have zero desire to ever listen to this at home when I have the original studio recordings and a handful of various live versions of each of these songs.

Alone on Christmas Day link is broken for some reason...?  The medley sounds great!  I wish Mike released an album like this!

I don’t know if anyone ever pointed this out, but the three tracks in this “Golden Medley” (“Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “I Get Around,” “Surfin USA”) appear to be the same recordings that eventually ended up on the Unleash The Love bonus disc and the Beach Music Classics PBS set (in unedited form). Well, “Surfin’ USA” seems to be a pretty different mix but I think it’s the same recording. Just pieced this together today… sorry to bump this ancient thread.

Also, the “Alone on Christmas Day” with the slightly longer fade that I mentioned above ended up on Reason for the Season! Shocked
