This Saturday, May 3, Van Dyke will be performing in the Eclectic Music Festival, at 8 pm in the South Pasadena Libary's conference room. This time around he's part of the backing band of Tony and Eliza Gilkyson, whose father Terry was one of VDP's major mentors. He is not mentioned in the webpage above, which gives showtimes (8 pm in Van Dyke's case) and addresses and other performers in the all-day lineup. But Eliza Gilkyson's website says he's part of the band.

This is the last act going on that day and finishes around 9:30 pm, so those among you in the LA area, who are eager to quiz VDP about whatever inconsistent and downright inexplicable statements he made in his recent interviews, should be able to catch him between then and when it's time for him to go home and watch the Beeb's world news show on his old-fashioned desktop.

With all due respect, rn57 -

I don't think that any detailed questions to VDP about his recent statements, and moreover if done with the intent of getting him to explain part of these declarations, will go down well with mr Parks; not at all, in fact, during an after-show meet & greet. I myself would very, very much refrain from doing so, no matter how puzzled I would be.

Sincerely yours, THD.

PS: I met him thrice on such occasions, we chatted, and despite the recent criticism vented here: he came across as a perfect Southern gentlemen, truly and really attentive to his admirers.

Well - I have to say I was being a little facetious. I sure hope VDP doesn't get pestered all that much with the S-word while he's packin' up after the gig.  But my experience is, if he's asked about the things and people he loves - and Nilsson and calypso would be up there - he'll warm to the subject and get ready to recount a few of his endless store of anecdotes about such things....

It's interesting to read his son Richard is undertaking a full scale documentary about him. I wonder just what (small case) talking heads will turn up in it.
